Mi último Voluntariado./ My last volunteering
Me encantan estos días de voluntariado, cada vez que voy me duermo temprano para poder llegar a tiempo, en esta ocasión nos dirigimos a el poblado de Poxilá, ubicado en el municipio de Umán, en Yucatán.
Como en las veces anteriores fue un equipo multidisciplinario, la mayoría estudiantes de las carreras enfermería, medicina, rehabilitación, trabajo social y nutrición.
Al llegar al poblado nos dedicaamos a instalar las mesas de traabajopara poder recibir a los habitantes quienes acudirían a recibir consulta médica y orientación nutricional.
Hi guys, as you know I am a nutrition student and this time I am going to tell you about my most recent participation in the volunteer days organized by the student community of the university where I study.
I love these volunteer days, every time I go I sleep early to be able to arrive on time, this time we went to the town of Poxilá, located in the municipality of Umán, in Yucatán.
As in previous occasions, it was a multidisciplinary team, most of them students of nursing, medicine, rehabilitation, social work and nutrition.
When we arrived at the village, we set up the work tables to receive the inhabitants who came to receive medical consultation and nutritional guidance.
Las compañeras de trabajo social recibian a la gente, y las pasaban con el médico para recibir su consulta médica, despues eran canalizados con nutrición, nosotros pesabamos y medíamos a los pacientes les hacíamos preguntas acerca de sus costumbres alimenticias para posteriormente adecuar un plan de alimentacion que les sea posible llevar a cabo.
The social work colleagues received the people, and passed them to the doctor for their medical consultation, then they were channeled to nutrition, we weighed and measured the patients and asked them questions about their eating habits to later adapt a food plan that is possible for them to carry out.
Medimos y pesamos a niños y adultos para poder crear un plan personalizado de nutrición, con los bebés da un poco de trabajo ya que al acostarlos en la báscula se ponen inquietos y se mueven mucho, algunos hasta se ponen a llorar, pero tratamos de distraerlos para que no lloren, es un poco incomómodo por que no tengo mucho trato con niños, aun que si tego un hermanito, pero ya esta grande, ya no llora, jajaja.
We measure and weigh children and adults to be able to create a personalized nutrition plan, with babies it is a bit of work because when we put them on the scale they get restless and move a lot, some even start to cry, but we try to distract them so they don't cry, it is a little uncomfortable because I don't deal much with children, although I do have a little brother, but he is a big boy, he doesn't cry anymore, hahaha.
Algunos de los pobladores nos comentaron que les es algo dificil encontrar alimentos como carnes, frutas o verduras frescos, a no ser que vayan a la otro pueblo a comprar por que ahí no cuentan con mercado.
En esta ocasión la maestra seleccionó a 8 personas de las diferentes disciplinas para realizar un visita domiciliaria, yo tenía muchas ganas de ir pero no fuí seleccionada, espero que para la siguiente si me elijan por que sería una experiencia más.
Al final fue una visita a Poxilá muy productiva, conocimos gente de la localidad, y brindamos un servicio que le hacía falta a la comunidad.

Some of the villagers told us that it is difficult for them to find food such as meat, fruits or fresh vegetables, unless they go to the other town to buy because there is no market there.
On this occasion the teacher selected 8 people from the different disciplines to make a home visit, I really wanted to go but I was not selected, I hope that for the next one I will be chosen because it would be one more experience.
In the end it was a very productive visit to Poxilá, we met local people, and provided a service that was needed in the community.
