Follow The Tipster - Tuesday, 20h June, 2023

Hello again one and all,

It's Tuesday, and today marks the start the start of the 2023 Royal Ascot meeting. One of the premier racing festivals in the UK. And typically for such a big event, most of the tipsters are battling for honours at this meeting, with 46 of them making selections in the 7 races on the card. Two of those races (3:40pm and 5:00pm) have attracted the attention of 20 of those 46 tipsters picking 6 of the runners in each race. The selction with the most tips is running in the 5:00pm, Calling The Wind has been chosen by 5 of our crew. Once again there will be a fair few disappointed tipsters at the end of the day.

Recap - Sunday, 18th June, 2023

A winnner and a 5th place were the results from our two picks yesterday. The winner Be Frank advised by tipster Lee Sobot, helping to make a dent into our June deficit. Today Lee has advoided the likely carnage in the two races mentioned, although he is battling with 2 other tipsters for honours with his pick in the 4:20pm.

Making his handicap debut, Be Frank was keenly out of the gates, initially challenging for the lead. Soon settled in behind to track the leading pair, one off the rails. Moved forward to challenge around 2f from home, moving into second place. Took the lead shortly after, and although came under slight pressure from the eventual second, ran on decisively inside the last furlong, finishing 1.25 lengths clear at the line, to make it back-to-back victories this year

Jon Freeman's long odds pick failed to pass muster yesterday finishing 5th of 6 runners, thus Lee Sobot once again claims top spot on his own.

Ended last year with a win over 7f at The Curragh, and has since returned following a 164 day break with 3 more wins, most recently winning The Irish 2000 Guineas (8f), once again at The Curragh, last month, and with today's jockey on board. He won by 2 lengths that day. Back down in trip to 7f for this outing.

Cheeky Extra Bet

I'm testing out a new tipping service over the next few weeks, which is likey to be the feature of a new blog series. It did cost me £0.99p for the 28 day trial, and if he continues to hit at the rate he was when he was trialling himself for the tipping service (around 50% strike rate) that fee should be easily recovered.

With no selection yesterday, Renegade Racing bounce back today with four potential tips for today. Two of these run at Ascot, with one each at Stratford, and Wexford in Ireland.

I've backed all four as part of my test, but i think the pick of the bunch for the Cheeky Extra Bet today is Asadna in the 3:05pm Coventry Stakes. (full disclosure - another tipster i semi follow also recommended this runner a couple of weeks ago at 7-1, which I jumped on for an each-way punt). Here, we only got on at 11-4 (3.75), and has since fallen further to be 5-2 (3.50) at the time of writing. Has 2022 Champion Jockey William Buick on board again, following his win at the first time of asking at Ripon las month with a huge winning margin of 12 lengths that day.

At the prices I would much rather be on Asadna then River Timber at around 15/8. Asadna won on debut at Ripon by 12 lengths near enough hands and hills, setting a very good time in the process. Second place Fifty Grand Slater has gone on to finish 8th in a highly prized conditions race at Epsom 10 lengths off the leader which is a much better run then it looks just looking at the finishing position. River Timber the favourite has won twice in his career last time out 'just' getting home at 2/9 SP. River Timber looked vulnerable last time out trading 2.00 in play, he looks a very green horse and Asadna in my opinion looks a bit more the finished deal being able to run in a straight line which when betting on 2 year olds you're looking for every edge you can. Detorri's ride Givemethebeatboys is far too short to back at 4/1 which is mainly the bookmakers controlling their liability if he starts winning every race. At the bigger prices only Army Ethos based on runs so far looks good enough to be in contention for this race having won impressively on debut.
