Hello again one and all,

A new month begins today, and it's time to get back to posting about my horse racing betting strategy. I've spent the last few weeks tinkering, and testing,how the information I feed into my spreadsheets is processed, which I hope will speed things up and make it easier to incorporate into this blog.

For today, just a short post with a bet from the winning NAPster for the month of August - Mercury, who managed an impressive 14 wins from 31 picks. Less impressive was the P&L for him, as many of the winners were short priced or even odds on favourites, thus limiting his chances of nice profits, and he ended the month in the red.

So the detail surrounding

Trainer: Joseph P O'Brien (Last 14 days: 5-51 9.8%)
Jockey: M P Walsh (Last 14 days: 1-4 25%)

Returns to hurdling in this race, following a win on the flat 16 days ago. Of her two previous runs over hurdles, was placed third of the eighteen runners in December 2022, and a faller in the second in January 2023.

Bet Placed : 1pt Win @ 6/5. stake £0.10 returns £0.22

Cheeky Extra Bet

The cheeky extra bet has evolved a little since I last posted one, with a little strategy i'm starting to build up.

Initially I look at only races with my bookie featuring extra places, and ideally a handicap race. Having found a race that fills that criteria, I look at the form to see firstly any runners that won last time, and if not won at least in the last five runs. In addition the odds have to be high enough to warrant an each-way (minimum 7/1)

So for todays cheeky extra bet i've gone with

Trainer: R A Fahey (Last 14 days: 5-51 9.8%)
Jockey: Billy Garritty (Last 14 days: 2-24 8.33%)

A winner in his second of four starts in May 2022, followed up by two second places in June, and July 2022. Returning to the track after 419 days, and has been gelded in the interim.

Bet Placed 0.5 point each way @ 16/1. unit stake £0.05, total stake £0.10, returns £1.06 for a win
