Taper exercises
Dimensioning of conical elements
Taper is indicated with a symbol representing a cone with a central axis
The symbol is applied to the conical element and is oriented in the same direction as the taper. Example shown below
Taper indication
Let's consider the following indication
This indicates that for length L = 5, D-d = 1
See image below for better understanding
Exercise
Given what has been described above, let's now try to calculate the nominal value of d in the following image
The taper is reported with a value of 1:20. This means that for L=20 we have that D-d=1.
Since L=10 (half of 20) we will have that D-d= 0.5
Alternative to calculation
To calculate the taper we can also use the following formula
Let us remember below what the various letters refer to
Which in the case of C 1:20 we will have the following:
Conclusions
In the exercise shown we saw how the diameter of a truncated cone is calculated knowing the taper. With modern CAD, getting to the final result is simple and can exclude the use of this formula.

THE END
This was really well explanatory to understand
Thank you for sharing
In reality the calculation of the smallest diameter, given the largest diameter and the taper is simple. However, the concept must be explained well and I agreed that I could explain it even better. Thanks for stopping by
The working was quite simple
I love how you explained
Nice one!
Thank you, explaining things well is very important. After years I realized that in the past I had never understood some concepts simply because they had not been explained to me clearly. !PIZZA
Well..I'm not good in this topic but appreciate the people can understand this.
Thanks for stopping by. For me, sharing these things is also like reviewing
