Lessons Learned: SPI's Evolution in Cryptocurrency Investing

Hello SPIers, this week we see the markets start to bleed, most of us are veterans and know this is what happens after the markets have been pumping for a few months already. 20-40% corrections are fairly common within the bull cycle and based on past cycles, we have 5-7 each bull cycle so this correction is the first of this cycle.

Are these good times to buy? Yes and No. Yes because with this being the 1st correction of the cycle, we know the market will pump again but no because you should have stacked your crypto during the bear cycle.

SPIs main crypto bag of HIVE, BTC, ETH and RUNE were got years ago. We invested in some DOGE and ADA in Feb 2023, PEPE in May 2023 and most recently FET(AI). We also hold small bags of BONK(MEME) and KAVA(DEFI).

SPI is pretty much done with spending at this point, we still have a few HBD left over but we will keep 6000 in the savings wallet because the interest helps pay toward SPI team rewards and it is nice to hold some liquid cash for just in case a once in a lifetime thing comes along, well liquid after 3 days.

With our bags 99% loaded, all we are doing at this point and waiting. We are sitting in a very good spot right now. In HIVE value, SPI at over 5 HIVE each are currently higher than they have been in around 3 years and in dollar value, it's been 22 months since we were floating around the $200k mark.

With this being the first of many large corrections, we can expect lots of pumps over the next 12-18 months. I cant speak on a HIVE value of SPI but i think it would be safe to assume we'll hit a new time high dollar value for SPI this cycle. Last cycle, the fund peaked at around $510k and we have more crypto this cycle so would be hard for us to not go over a half million dollars again.

The main difference between this bull cycle and the last one for SPI will be we'll be converting cryptos during the bullrun instead of after the bubble popped. Last, the bulk of what we sold was done during Mar 2022, we did ok but we could have done better. We learn a little each cycle and get better, improve and hopefully can make better returns on safer investments all while keeping the ego in check and not getting cocky. It's easy to think of you as a genius investor during a bullrun and overconfidence leads to getting wrecked 99 times out of 100.

For this cycle, my whole thought process is different. Last cycle, I was very focused on Defi, we made good money but it may have blinded me from the real gains to be had. Last cycle I was thinking about selling at certain dollar values and they never came. Last cycle, I viewed the bull year as a year to make maximum returns with our cryptos, this cycle im viewing 2025 as the year to empty our bags and finish the year holding HBD and some HIVE.

We'll finish 2025 holding no BTC, no ETH, ADA, DOGE, RUNE, PEPE, FET, nothing. Just a big bag of HBD and about 90k HP. We finish 2026 holding alot less HBD but still 6 figures and hopefully more BTC and ETH than we hold today. New cycle, new plan.

It is still early days and im getting ahead of himeself, we've not even had the BTC halving yet. Right now, we're sitting on the launchpad, the engines are not on yet but we're on board...waiting.

Lucky I'm not holding the bags (or is it? 😂). No way I would dump BTC, ETH etc. and hold it all in Hive and HBD. Oh hang on, you didn't say Hive, youdsaid HBD. Still wouldn't do it. 50% may be. Thank goodness I'm not holding the bags. It would be a nightmare for me to make decisinos like you do. I can't bring myself to trade anything which is why I've "lost" thousands, on paper at least. But that's mostly via SL.

The first couple of times selling is the hardest because it feels like you going against your gut but after you force yourself to do it a few times and you see after 6-12 months you did the right thing, it gets easier and then you start to enjoy it because you can add a 0 to your net worth every 4 years :)
