Palm wine: The Nigerian brandless beer

Hello my fellow beer lovers...
It's once again a day to share few words with you about one of my favourite beers.
For today, I will be sharing something a little bit different because the beer I'm about to share now has no brand, hehehe.

Over here in Nigeria, we have a brandless beer which most persons especially the elderly prefer because it's all natural and they feel more at ease taking it since they believe it's got no negative side effects because of it's naturality and that's one of my favourite beers.

I tasted it first around 13 years ago when I went for a traditional marriage and i loved it.
Yesterday, I went out with my friends after a conference meeting to gist a little since it's been long we last saw each other and guess what?

We asked of this brandless beer and it was available, wow, I opted in immediately that it's the one I'll be taking and my friends queued in immediately.

The Nigerian Brandless Beer

This brandless beer is popularly known and called, Mmanya ocha in my country but the English name is Palm Wine.

It is produced from sap of palm trees by palm wine tappers and produced all around the country.
It's whitish in colour but isn't that frothy which is why I love it and tastes better when served just as it is without refrigerating it.
It's got a milky sweet taste which takes people's mind off from it's alcoholic effect and they keep drinking till they get intoxicated even without knowing, hehehe (you've got to know when to stop with this beautiful beer)

An attempt could be made at estimating the alcoholic percentage but a specific value can't be given like the way we see in Desparado beers, Tiger beers and other brands and this is because it's not produced from one specific palm tree and variations are bound to occur since it's not taken to a commercial brewery for further processing.

Relevance Of The Brandless Beer

Even though this beer has no brand, it has got a high relevance in my ethnic group; Igbo in Nigeria.....

  • Traditional Marriage:

When it's time for the bride to use a cup of wine and locate her groom, this is the wine of choice used for this purpose and once the bridegroom accepts and drinks this wine, it represents acceptance and a virtual contract that the marriage is successful and signifies peace which is one of the core values of the Igbo tribe.

  • Anti Oxidants Effects:

Upon research, I got to discover that palm wine is enriched with many vitamins which serve as antioxidants and helps in good eye vision thereby fostering a healthier living.

Disadvantages Of This Brandless Beer

  • Inappropriate Dosing:

Just like I pointed out before, it's not taken to any brewery industry for further processing so there's no way to know the exact alcoholic percentage it contains and this will make you gulp in countless cups of it even without knowing you're off your limits.

  • Expensive:

This is the reason why most persons go for other brands because this palm wine is very expensive over here that you'll be spending almost twice the price you would have spent on other brands getting this.

Special appreciation to @detlev for this wonderful initiative, #BeerSaturday , I am glad to participate in this week's edition and do hope I get to participate every week but that would mean I would have to be drinking every week, lol...
I invite @matadei, you can blog in any language here about your beers with atleast 3 pictures?
Might be a good avenue of getting another beer funds, hehe.

REMEMBER TO ALWAYS DRINK RESPONSIBLY!!!

ALL IMAGES ARE MINE
(it was already dark so that was the best pictures I could get, pardon me on that)

Thanks for reading and have a fun-filled Sunday
