“Never You Lose Focus, One at a Time”: The Simple Advice that guides Me

The best advice I have ever received came from my grandmother during the Covid-19 pandemic which forced students to go home.
As someone who lives with his grandmother, it's no news that I hear thousands of advices daily, some of which I've even forgotten, no wonder Bernard Williams will say that,

"An unsolicited advice is the junk mail of life",

but, there was this particular advice that stood out... one that was unique amongst equals.

What's This Advice I Speak So Much About?

The forced Covid-19 break made a lot of youths In my village start engaging in various fraudulent CyberCrime activities and in no distant time, they bought cars and were living extravagant lifestyle.

They were good friends of mine so it was only natural for me to get interested when I've seen they were living large and started hanging out with them so they can guide me.
I started seeing the little chores I help my grandmother out with as something so tedious; a burden per say and most times I end up sleeping outside in my friend's place all in search of greener pastures I never worked for.

As I struggled to balance the mounting Financial pressures and responsibilities of my academics, my grandmother noticed this and called me one night after dinner where she offered a few simple words that came to shape my approach to life's challenges: "Never you lose focus, one at a time my son."

She didn't specifically know what cybercrime was all about but to her all she knew was that my friends were doing something not legally accepted in the society to make their money and to her, that's not what she wants from her grandson.

My grandmother's simple straightforward advice taught me the importance of avoiding distraction or discouragement.
By tackling one task at a time with dedicated focus; breaking down seemingly insurmountable challenges into manageable steps , I could achieve much more.

Rather than multitasking and dividing my attention, I concentrated on my academics. My productivity skyrocketed and grades improved dramatically which might not have been achieved if I was distracted with getting rich fast through engaging in cybercrimes.

I began to apply this advice to my studies. Rather than looking at the big textbooks and workloads I have to go through as a medical student, I focus on one topic at a time. Each day I would make a list using my economics' knowledge of scale and preference and work through them systematically.

The key is to simply begin - one step, one task, one day at a time.

Reflecting on my journey so far, my grandmother's simple advice has proven invaluable. .

Yet the road ahead remains long. New goals emerge and old dreams persist, each awaiting their turn to be pursued and realized. But I do not feel overwhelmed. With patience and perseverance, one at a time, I will continue progressing steadily toward destinations still unknown.

"Never you lose focus, one at a time" – words I will continue to live by and pass on to others.

God bless you grandma

Thanks for reading and have a great weekend 👍

Great counsel by grandma. I've equally employed ONE STEP AT A TIME and I give little or no regard to whatever resembles stress in my life.

Thank you for sharing

Peer pressure is one of the fastest things to get to an individual, you don’t even know when you’re influenced, you just see yourself doing some certain things.

Like eeh...
Just like St. Paul said, "I see myself doing things I don't want to do and then not doing things I want to do"

That's just what peer pressure does and it's too bad... We really need someone to pull us out most times before it's too late

Hopefully, we will always have that person available.

Navigating through the vast archives of stock photos on a website was like embarking on a visual journey. With each category I explored, I stumbled upon images that evoked powerful emotions time vector and sparked my creative instincts. From vibrant cityscapes to serene nature scenes, these visuals became the foundation of my design projects, infusing them with energy and life.
