Tales of the Urban Explorer: Parkfield Mews

avatar
(Edited)

We had finished “The Artists House” and were en-route to Liverpool. You might be thinking of The Beatles if you live outside of the UK.

In truth, I was thinking I hope no bastard nicks my new car. Liverpool is, or used to be famous for having your car stolen. This statement may well be dated in today’s world, I am no longer sure.

22_IMG_7566_22.jpg

Parkfield Mews was another drive-by, and close to the Toxteth district, made famous by those riots of previous decades.

"an old Victorian house", I exclaimed to @anidiotexplores who was already vacating the car and running off to scout before I had switched the engine off. Talk about enthusiasm!

25_IMG_7571_25.jpg

It did look impressive from the roadside as I peered through chained gates to the property beyond.

I have gotten used to external sights like these being great and disappointed with what was inside many a time.

@anidiotexplores was already within the grounds, gave me the thumbs-up, and despite the fearsome looking chains I was in the grounds within seconds.

Moving closer I could hear noises coming from the inside that broken window. @andiotexplores was nowhere to be seen.

24_IMG_7570_24.jpg

I walked past the open window casually glancing inside. Four teenagers were sprawled out on the dusty floor and looked the worse for wear.

I didn’t want to stop and stare as scouser teenagers are feral animals, and what had been a normal situation would have quickly turned into an episode of The Hunger Games.

'Let them get pissed, and I will avoid that room', I thought.

There was no shortage of entrance holes and after scrambling up a door caked in dirt, I was in and looking for @anidiotexplores who had seemingly vanished.

2_IMG_7545_2.jpg

It looked bare inside and I groaned. It was one of those stripped houses with little to see.

3_IMG_7546_3.jpg

9_IMG_7552_9.jpg

10_IMG_7553_10.jpg

I inadvertently walked into the room with the four teenage pissheads and was immediately put on the spot.

“Er… have you seen another dude in here, short, wiry, and never stops talking?", I said trying to compose myself.

’I could find myself surrounded in minutes by these snarling animals intent on tying me down, and slicing my limbs off, one by one’

“Yeah man, he went that way”, one of the lads pointed, upwards which brought on a torrent of laughter from the others.

'Intimidating fuckers...'

I said my thanks and wondered how I had managed to escape alive.

...'if you think I don't like teenagers much you would not be far off the mark'

We had established a connection, the threat was gone and they didn't give a shit. That's how I like it.

4_IMG_7547_4.jpg

7_IMG_7550_7.jpg

8_IMG_7551_8.jpg

What struck me about this house was the stairs. Just how many do you need? It was a decent size but this was over the top.

5_IMG_7548_5.jpg

Let’s take a shit together, how romantic.

6_IMG_7549_6.jpg

Now that’s better. I prefer to do my unloading in private thanks.

11_IMG_7554_11.jpg

12_IMG_7555_12.jpg

As for the rest of the house, it just was not interesting. I looked at room after room and saw the same old shit. ('how dare you be so fucking boring... house')

13_IMG_7556_13.jpg

Finally, I met up with @andiotexplores who told me he had given the rabid beasts downstairs some cigarettes. It was kind of like an entrance fee to keep us safe. Those who remember prohibition will understand.

14_IMG_7557_14.jpg

15_IMG_7558_15.jpg

The house must belong to someone and could well be renovated. It wasn’t a damp old mess like some but the roof won’t last forever without work.

16_IMG_7559_16.jpg

17_IMG_7560_17.jpg

18_IMG_7561_18.jpg

I suppose it's a little late to dump some of the staircases. It could well be the original owner in the 1800s had a fondness for them and wanted to boast he had more than anyone else.

19_IMG_7562_19.jpg

1_IMG_7544_1.jpg

If I didn’t spot the external plaque this would have certainly been named, ”The House of Stairs”.

20_IMG_7563_20.jpg

21_IMG_7564_21.jpg

23_IMG_7567_23.jpg

We crept out avoiding the open window and silently made our exit.

what a nice house it should be in the past, it's a pity it is in such a bad conditions...

It looked great from the outside, but many do! As it was a drive-by.. well you can't complain.

I wonder how such buildings have been left like that. They would have been replaced with apartments in my country.

Snouse teenagers, oofty. Lucky you never came a cropper!!

That double toilet thing is a bit baffling!!

I figure the original owners could have had a Coprophagia fetish. You will probably need to google that. If you know the word.. I will worry!

Lol, then we should all worry as I was quite aware of that term!!

Perhaps I need to get my head looked at :OD

as I was quite aware of that term!!

Oh no... that is seriously bad. I had to look it up to remember. The House of Fudge memories stir in my mind.. and I shudder!

I blame most of my knowledge of awful terms on the late eighties lefty comedians. They loved digging out real but horrible words and throwing them in a skit

I would probably expect that from you hehe..., I once watched a video (90's) that had been copied multiple times creating that washed out blurry effect.

It started with a bloke who had a shit and then a piss, and then enter a woman who sat down at a table with a sterling silver goblet and finest china.

She was served the shit on the plate and the piss was poured into the goblet. She she proceeded to eat it washing it down with the piss. It was tough to watch and left a mark in my memory. One should not be subjected to such sights.

The direct from source videos are really gross...

I mean eating direct from source!

Okay, that's a beautiful house but what confuses me is the double toilet.

This one actually looks like it is still in pretty good condition. It would probably take some time and money, but totally salvageable. That would be pretty cool. I am glad you didn't get dragged off by the wild animals!

It was decent inside @bozz. No dripping water, but then again the weather was lovely that day. Massive inside..., the rich lived well in those days.

I actually do like this house. It looks very nice still, especially the entry.

Hmm the room with two toilets and your phrase let's take a shit together, how romantic is just too good for laughs😂😂

Good for you that you came out alive after encountering the feral creatures called teens. Pure luck! 🤞😂

Are there three mail slots on the front door?

The double dumper looks like it's got the mounts for cubicle walls. The paint on the wall also looks like there used to be a divider. Perhaps the dumper on the left was for the stair maintenance personnel. :-)

This place looks like it has great bones ... Keep saving your hive and you could have a helluva fixer upper.

There is.. which tells me it was used as flats once. Well spotted!

Another nice explore. I love old buildings like this as we have some in the historical district in our town. Would love to see it fixed up. Am i detecting a hint of roughness concerning Liverpool? I have a college friend who lives there (originally from some place called Runcorn) and hope he stays safe, though he's currently in Sheffield right now. As a Yank, we don't usually associate England/The Uk, with crime like we have here.

Runcorn is not far away, and certain parts of the city have a reputation. It's a bit rough around Toxteth. The crime is not like the US, Eg.. I have never seen a gun in my life in the UK, outside of the cops wearing them... and not all do.

Boring for what you are looking for, but, I really liked some of the rooms and the bricking, especially the fireplaces.

The two side by side were so odd! I mean, really? I am pretty sure that would be grounds for divorce if he tried to join me. "Oh, darling! Join me, won't you? I'll wait for you"

Gross.

Tossed the ciggies. Good call.

The dual toilets were the most interesting thing in there! There's always something.

Funny how all the stair spindles have been taken out. I wouldn't think they would be that valuable. I'm reminded of the 'Rich Man' song in Fiddler on the Roof.

I would have one long staircase just going up, and one even longer going down. And one more going nowhere just for show

Scousers must be fed up with their reputation for being dodgy. I'm sure that's just a minority. We could be around there next month, so I hope it's safe.

I thought communal shitters went out with the Romans.

The scousers I have met have all been great, I have counted some as friends in the past. It's the stigma that sticks. I read recently about some caravan park refusing entry to some because of their 'race'

You can't judge people just by their looks or accent. Posh white guys can be trouble too. Problem is someone has a bad experience from some miscreants and will be wary.

"an old Victorian house", I exclaimed to @anidiotexplores who was already vacating the car and running off to scout before I had switched the engine off

So at this point were you actually talking to them or to the space they had been occupying? XD

That was a grand old house O_O kinda sad that it's stripped down but it still held my interest from an architectural point of view. The inside layout looked interesting enough that the sheer volume of stairs kind of made sense. Though I had to giggle at the idea that maybe it was someone that had the idea that more stairs was a bragging point XD

That double toilet O_O both toilets and not one bidet and one toilet? I can't even.

Bidet's where something from out of the distant future when this relic was built. Likely the late 1800's, when Victoria was queen.
