HIVE UK Meet-ups

We have two HIVE meet-ups planned now: both on the 23rd of the month and both in towns beginning with H. Spooky or what? 😁

The Hitchin Hive Meetup organised by @steevc is planned for 23rd July 2023 - meet at Hitchin Rail Station for a lovely summer's walk or come at 1pm to join everyone for lunch.

Then Halifax Hive Meetup hosted by @c0ff33a and organised by me is on 23rd September - scheduled to coincide with HiveFest in Mexico - in Halifax. (To be fair, @slobberchops had a hand in this, too, although he's not able to come this time).

It's really great to see meet-ups starting to take place again around the country. Anyone can do one - just choose a date and a meeting place and let everyone know 😍.

Just Park

I was checking train times for getting to Hitchen from where I am and discovered this great website for finding parking spaces: Just Park. It's like Airbnb for parking. I've found a nice little parking spot a few minutes from Canterbury West Rail Station (because there's a Rail Replacement Bus from where I am that day, and really, it makes more sense to drive to the next station up the line).

This is someone renting their private residential parking space: what a wheeze! Just Park will also show you commercial car parks, and I see the supermarkets on here, too, renting their spaces for longer than the usual 2 hours for shopping.

While I was at it, I checked Halifax for the 23rd September. (I haven't checked Hitchen, though, if you're getting there by car).

Look at that: £1 for parking all day just 4 minutes walk away from @c0ff33a's place. There is free parking right outside, and paid for parking just down the road, but both for only two hours, so you have to remember to jump up and move your car!

I really like this idea, it takes a lot of stress out of finding and getting parking. Lovely! (I'm wondering if I can rent out my parking space now) 😂. Always good to have a side hustle.

HPUD

I'm doing okay on my road to 100,000HP. There's been a bit of a slow down with moving and then the exchange refusing my card (it's not legal in my country, it keeps telling me). It took hours on the phone with the bank getting the card cleared, having to go through questions about do I know what I'm doing (possibly not, but I do know it's crypto), and then more hours with support on the exchange and constantly getting my card declined.

I have had this experience before where you're trying to do business but being thwarted by the business in question not appearing to want your money. Still, I understand crypto regulations are going through Parliament as we speak, and as they are less draconian than EU plans, I think I may have found the one and only benefit to Brexit. UK citizens are certainly not going to benefit from the freedom of liberty which is going to be extended to economic migrants into the country. I can't help laughing as well: the government with their nonsense about decreasing immigration in a country that hasn't enough people for all the available work.

And thank goodness, the Rwanda deportations of refugees and asylum seekers have been stopped by the courts. For now at least.

So a small power-up this month: it's all grist to the mill.
