Making money in a time like this

This subject is one of the most viral topics currently trending on almost every social media site. Today you’ll see topics such as “sites that can pay you for surveys”, tomorrow you’ll see, “how you can get paid working from home,” and all sorts of attention-seeking posts. The painful part is that people are constantly falling for the scam. Especially people from Nigeria. The current poor economic situation and financial challenges plaguing a lot of indigenes have made them succumb to every ‘financial liberating’ idea, whether fake or real. This has made many fall victims by losing the little they have to scammers or even made them debtors because some people borrow money with the hope of refunding their lenders after getting profits, only to discover they have been duped.

Earlier this year, a lady introduced me to a platform where I could pay #4,000 and make #21,000. She showed me evidence of payment. One thing I don’t do is go for something I don’t understand! If it is not logical or explainable, you won’t see me there, and this has saved my little hard-earned money from becoming a giveaway to scammers. I declined the lady’s offer, and funny enough, she invested all she made in the “plan”, as they call it. She lost all the money! How can one make money in an economy like this?

I was having a chat with a friend, and she told me she planned on going into selling bags of picked beans. I was surprised because I never expected her to have such a rare initiative. Although there were several things to consider, “this is a good start”, was my reply to her wonderful idea. One of the things that can never stop selling is food! At some point, I had to go into sales, and I never regretted it.

Everybody eats on a daily basis, and as local or “untush” as it may sound, many food sellers make a lot of money. During my undergraduate days, I, along with my friends, did publicity for a mobile kitchen opened by a lady. What she does is deliver food to bankers, teachers, students, and a few traders at an affordable price. She never came back with any unsold food. The customer service is top-notch, and her customers always want more. We organized it in such a way that you place your order ahead, and we make all customers feel like kings or queens, regardless of age and level. Aside from good customer service, one of the major attributes of a successful business is timeliness. Never disappoint your customers, and if it happens, apologize and don't let it repeat itself.

I have bought several pouches and earpieces, headsets, and chargers for phones and laptops countless times. Almost everyone uses a phone or at least an electronic gadget. One can specialize in selling replacements like phone accessories, casings, and the like. Opening a repair shop for such equipment will also attract a lot of customers. Especially if you are good at what you do.

In case you can’t learn any of the suggested ways to earn as stated above, you can volunteer to work in an environment where your skills are needed. The only thing you need here is patience. From what I learned years ago, I have been privileged to work as a teacher, and it took time before I got paid for private lessons. As of when I was employed, my employer didn’t pay me much, but after spending close to six months, I had some parents requesting private lessons for their children, and the payment from this doubled my income in a month.
