In this fast-paced Microwave world where everything must be instant and if it isn’t then people move on. We have been faced with a relatively new Phenomena which is known as FOMO.
Fear of Missing Out
Advertisers have found that this is a great tool for promoting products and we see it every single day from the supermarket shelves to the Advertising platforms that we use for our own promotions.
The Ad that says, here is the offer but it is only available for the next 10 minutes etc.
This is deliberately playing on the notion that if you don’t take this offer now you will miss out.
One-time offers is the same principle. Buy this now or you will miss out.
I grew up in a time when FOMO was not really an issue and to be honest FOMO only really effects certain personality types, however this personality type is becoming more prevalent in the microwave world.
So does FOMO really work as an advertising tool?
I believe it does for some. And for some sites. I think that it works most effectively when you are a regular user of a product or site and you have information readily accessible from your history that when an offer appears you will be able to determine whether it is a genuine offer or not.
I think in the one off splash advertising where they say buy now, only limited spots available, you must take this offer now, that on the whole people are wary, sure some will grab it because they are flitting and want whatever promised opportunity they can get because they believe that what is in front of them is 'THE' opportunity.
That’s the trouble with the microwave mentality. Everything is instant and should give you instant results.
This is why when you hear people say. Do your research, then do your research. Find out what you can and have information to help you decide.
If you know the program or product then you will be able to ascertain if what is being offered is a good deal or not
If you have just joined a program and you are a member of similar programs, then you will be able to ascertain if it is a good offer or not.
Just make sure you are informed.
