Music is undoubtedly very powerful in expressing emotions, conveying emotions, and triggering emotional brain mechanisms. Neuroscience researchers have used music to investigate brain mechanisms for processing auditory emotions.

Researchers had previously used recorded music to define a neural model of musical emotion processing, but they found that using recorded music had limitations, so they used live music in the new study. Researchers had previously used recorded music to define a neural model of musical emotion processing, but found that using recorded music had limitations and that emotional brain responses were highly inconsistent, so they used live music in the new study.

Source

The new research linked musicians' live performances to neural processing in listeners, and the listeners' amygdala activity was displayed to the musicians in real time. Brain activity was measured using functional MRI, and specifically amygdala activity was measured in real time for the neurofeedback signal. Live music performed in response to amygdala neurofeedback from listeners was acoustically very different from recorded music, eliciting significantly higher and more consistent amygdala activity. And the study found higher activity in a broader neural network involved in emotional processing during live music compared to recorded music. Research has shown that live music can stimulate listeners' emotional brains more powerfully and consistently than recorded music. In other words, it reveals that live music performances appeal to the soul and stimulate the brain in more powerful ways than listening to a recorded music. If you want to take a look at the research, here is the research link.

Although I usually listen to recorded music, I can say that I love live music more, and I generally prefer to attend live music parties. Undoubtedly, music has a very powerful effect on emotions and I can say that listening to live music makes me feel much better. I may have to listen to a recorded song dozens of times to memorize it, but I can easily memorize a song I listen to live, which clearly shows that the results of the above research are quite accurate for me. Frankly, I believe this is directly related to the fact that I concentrate more when listening to live music, because I concentrate more when listening to live music than recorded music, that is, I connect more emotionally with the song when it is live. Maybe that's why many music lovers love live music more.

Music is powerful enough to change lives. Enjoy the music and stay with Love.

Question of the Day : What do you think of the research? Do you like live music or recorded music more? If you don't have an answer to this question, You can talk about your favorite song or anything related to music in your comment.

count me in @jfang003

I think the research is interesting and the live/recorded argument is there. I like the live version but I just end up listening to recorded stuff most of the time.

ign @olaf.gui

I prefer to listen to recorded music because I like comfort and the ability to listen to music whenever I want, wherever I want. No doubt live music provides some things that recorded music doesn't. The connection between the artist(s) and the public can only be found in live music.

Congratulations @middle-earthling! Count me in for another round, please! Thank you so very much!

Since humans are such musical creatures, this research makes perfect sense! We connect, share stories, and learn through creating music and singing songs with each others, so of course music has such a profound effect on us. 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

thanks

@henruc

The research you mentioned highlights the differences in neural processing and emotional responses between live music and recorded music. Like live music more as live music performances elicit higher and more consistent amygdala activity.
