# 944 - Canadian Wildlife - Part 35

avatar

Today we will continue the series called "Canadian Wildlife".

The Royal Canadian Mint is known by its high quality work and the enormous number of commemorative coins issued each year. Among these commemoratives we find many, individual or in series, under the theme "wildlife".

Canada, with its vast lands and seas, is the home of a varied fauna and that will be showed in this series.

I will try to post land animals, sea animals and birds, in that order.

The thirty fifth is a 2016 CAD $5 "Peregrine Falcon".

In 2016 the Royal Canadian Mint decided to recreate the "Canadian Wildlife Series (Bullion Issues)". It would present four of the animals shown in the original series, but now minted with reverse Proof finish and limited mintage.

Each coins weights 31.11g with reverse Proof finish and 99.99% silver purity. Each mintage was 100,000 units.

If you want to check the differences, here is the original post:

The reverse shows the "Peregrine Falcon" (Falco peregrinus). Revered since the Middle Ages, the peregrine falcon is one of the most striking, beautiful, graceful aerial predators in the world. Known for its breathtaking displays of flight agility, the bird can reach speeds over 300km/h while stooping, making it the fastest animal in the world.

It was designed by Canadian artist Emily Damstra and depicts a peregrine falcon in a mid-air attack position.

Falcons are interesting birds of prey. I wonder what it would feel like to hold one on your arm and send it out?

A nicely detailed coin. Thanks for sharing!
