Being security conscious on campus is really important.
A lot of things happen these days on campus, when students get into bad ways, their phones, and pocket money are taken away, but it all depends on the area you live in and the people you interact with on campus. No matter where I live, I don't want to test the peace of the place, I come home when I see it's time to go home, I take my security very important.
Especially at night, I hear a lot of people have problems, like people harassing them at night and demanding their belongings, like phones and jewellery, all this comes because night is a dangerous time to be out.
I don't go out at night these days, I'm trying my best to stay out for a little while so I can find my way home when the day is young, the people who do these harassment things are the ones who peer group deceive them into a bad kind of life.
And if you wanted to find out the age of these people, you would find out that they might be young, because young people do things without thinking about the implications they will have in the future.
When I started entering adolescence, I had already been told these things, and I have lived with them inside me, so that I don't fall victim to a bad gang or whatever, I keep an eye on the people I associate with so that I don't fall into what I might regret in the future.
When I was admitted into the higher institution in 2012. My first time in school, I met someone, he was so smart and I love him for the way he took studies so seriously, I go around him because I wanted to learn many things from him, like how he managed to solve the three columns cash book in accounting, so that day after class, we sat in the canteen and discuss, we became friends.
He gave me his home address and asked me to come whenever I wanted to receive more lessons, I didn't understand about accounting, I could learn from him.
I was a newbie, and he was also a new student like me, but every time we sit together, I would see people who come to give him a handshake, and the faces of these people are not students. So one day I asked him
"Why most of your friends are not students?", he said it could be a long story.
We entered the semi final year of our studies and this time, we lived close to each other and you could imagine our level of closeness, it was very hot, but sometimes, my friend didn't want to sleep at his house, he preferred to come to my house and spend a night, it was okay for me because he was my friend and someone who has shown me so much love since my first year in understanding the accounting course so well.
So one morning, he spent the night at my house, my lodge was well fenced, the top of the fence were round with electric wire, so as he had steps outside and wanted to go home, to prepaid for our early morning class, a group of guys chase on me, they nearly caught him, but he managed to get out and close the gate.
He made a fuss in my lodge and other students came out, including the landlord of the house, it was the landlord who opened the gate and I discovered that my friend was a member of a gang, it was time for him to pay his dues and he had no money, that was why he kept away from his own lodge, so that his gang mate would not come and beat him up for not paying his dues.
The matter got serious and he had to come to school from home, I asked him how he managed to join the gang, if it was of his own free will but he said no, that a fellow student lured him into it, the day he came to school looking for accommodation.
He told me that they wanted him to join them in street hunting for the last few weeks, as he had no money to pay the fees, but he couldn't do something like that to people.
I felt his pain because those gang members were making the school hell for him, he made a report home and his parents make an enquiry at the police station, this made the gang members to stay away from him, he graduated successfully and suffered no harm, if at least someone had enlightened him from the beginning, he would not have fallen into their trap, I was aware because I have people who took their time to tell me how to protect myself and be security conscious.
Thank you for sharing this. Many issues regarding security came up when I was in school. They always advised we don't stay out late or be in the dark alone. But for gangs, I did away with them because I knew what they could bring to my table.
I rather study than go home to have nothing to say to my parents about my school life.

Some new students fall victim's of bad gang because no one was there to tell them how everything is burn down in campus, this is a good Community and I am happy to contribute to the growth with my article.
