Weekend Engagement - Health and Wealth

What excites you about the future and what scares you about the future.

This is an interesting prompt and I spent my Sunday morning reading some of the posts in the community and I saw quite a few posts talking about AI and technology related stuff. No doubt, AI is definitely the talk of the town, but for me, I wanted to share something more from a personal perspective.

So what excites me about the future?

Financial freedom!!!

Financial freedom is a medium to long term target which I have been working towards for a large part of my life. It's not about becoming a multi-millionaire, live in big mansions or drive big cars, and live a luxurious life. To me, financial freedom means I have enough financial means to sustain my personal expenses and commitments, be it from savings, investments or other income streams, such that I can fully choose what I want to do with my life and my time.

I am still in my 30s, so this is still work in progress. This means working hard, spending prudently, invest wisely, educating myself about financial knowledge, and currently, I am well on track to achieve my target.

So this future excites me because I can spend more time to do what I want, instead of spending a large part of my time awake at work. I can spend even more time with my loved ones and friends, spend even more time exercising, spend even more time on hobbies which I enjoy, including writing and reading on Hive, the list goes on. I mean, I still do all these things, but there's really a limit given the amount of time left in the week after you subtract away the time spent on sleeping and working.

Of course, not forgetting, more "me time". Just chilling at the beach or pool, getting a tan, and doing some reflections about life.

And what scares me about the future?

Gosh, it's health for sure!

We all age with time, and with ageing, our health would deteriorate in some form or another. While little aches and discomfort are more manageable, I am scared about major illnesses like chronic diseases, cancer, stroke, the list goes on. I mean, on my part, I can all everything I can, be it eating healthily, exercising regularly, etc but life is sometimes unpredictable. And that's the scary part.

Fortunately, I have a few minor health scares over the years but nothing too major. I hope it stays this way for as long as possible, and I am also not taking my good health for granted, but regardless, that's still a major worry or scare for me going into the future. Maybe I am a constant worrier.

At the risk of sounding so morbid, it's time for me to head out to the gym get some exercise done!

At the end of the day, if I could summarise this post into one sentence, it's about balancing our health and wealth. Both are important in their ways and we can't give up either as well. But amidst the life's trials and tribulations, don't forget to live our lives to the fullest and (try to) enjoy every moment!
