My Career Choice now...

Hello and Everyone

We all try different ways to choose the right career for us and it also depends upon the area of interest. Sometimes we get a profession that is mixed with some area of interest or passion we can say. Everyone needs to do something in life to fulfil some responsibilities and commitments and also to do what they want to do. It's not necessary that whatever we choose in the beginning as a career will continue till the time we are ready for retirement. Many times because of different situations we need to make a change in our career but ultimately we prefer to stay employed on the job or if it is a business or something we want to keep on doing with a better outcome.

My Career Situation

My career situation has changed after the pandemic. I was working in one of the companies full-time before the pandemic lockdown. My profile is on clothing design so it is my area of interest you can say. The company was not able to survive the lockdown situation because it was not so big. I lost my job in just a couple of months after the lockdown so I can say this lockdown made me jobless. It was not just me because many people were going through financial challenges and lost their jobs and mining businesses were also impacted. I had thought before the pandemic that I would be starting my own business in 2020 and luckily I delayed my plan for some time which nothing was good for me.

I lost my job then I started spending more time on this platform. I would have started my business in the second quarter of 2020 but could not do so due to the lockdown. It's good that I was planning to start in the second quarter. If I had opened it in the first quarter of 2020 then for sure things would have been difficult for me to survive.

The company I worked with for about five years was not able to survive the pandemic lockdown. I did a lot of learning during the lockdown time and I'm glad that it was the time when I was able to spend more time with family my kids friends and also focus on the levelling. I decided that I would not be doing any job anymore where I needed to dedicate the entire day. It's like I was not at all interested in going back to the rat race after this change. The company was reopened in 2022 and I was asked to join back but I refused because I had decided that I would not be going back to my job again.

Now they have given me the option to work as a freelancer. It is good for me because I can decide my work hours and can earn the money I need for my expenses. I will never do the job again and since I had a baby in 2023 so now I can't even think about business for the next 3-4 years from now. I'm able to generate some income through the freelancing work that I do for the same company and I'm happy with it. I am employed but not the way the majority of people are employed because I don't want to spend the entire day on something and of course, there is a lot of travelling involved in that too. I work from home and get the assignments from the company so they come to my place when they need my help instead of me going to them. I do visit them probably once in 2-3 months and spend a couple of hours to understand the work requirements.

So this is my current career situation when I am employed as per my terms and I am happy with it. I earn money but I don't compromise on the time which I can spend with my family and kids so I am happy earning whatever I can with the current way of working. Freelancing is a good option for those who want flexibility in working hours and sometimes I earn even more than what I used to earn before the pandemic so overall this change is good for me and I am happy with my current career journey. My family and kids are my first requirement and after that this work I do when I want to do it because I do not need to work several hours or any shift. I minus to take out one hour or something to spend on hive after finishing my family and work activities and it's fun.
