Space Tourism: Capitalism and Greed

Capitalism is an economic system in where the trades, profits, labours are handled by private companies instead of the real hardworking people. In this state, lots of people work hard for less and their bosses reap from their hard work. Capitalism causes in equality between hard working laborer and less hard working boss. In Capitalism the rich keep getting richer and the poor keeps getting poorer.

Most of this capitalist consider greed as a good trait in business. So they are always greedy when it comes to wealth and distributing it. They have large amount of capitals and are making lots of profits and interest, instead of sharing this wealth, by making sure their workers and employee earn better so they don’t remain on poverty, they rather look for something wasteful to spend their money on. That’s why you find most capitalist buying the most outrageous things at outrageous prices.

We are going to use Richard Branson as an example. Richard Branson just went to space and his company is looking forward to commercializing space tourism with space ticket costing up to $250,000. For a space ticket to cost that much, an average American can’t afford that. This means that most of their passengers will be filled with lots of capitalist. These are capitalist that make their wealth of cheap labors.

One of the most mind blowing things I find unbelievable is that Richard Branson is a billionaire worth $5.3 billion according to Forbes but he got $220 million from tax payers in New Mexico which is one of the poorest states. He decided to use this state as the location of his space travel business. The people in the states who had to pay tax for the space port are hoping that it will pay off someday. More information. Just so you know, $220 million off Richard Branson’s $5.3 billion wealth is just 4.15%. But most capitalist will rather not spend their money but will want others to spend it for them. This is because of their take that “greed is good”. They believe greed drives profit and profit drives innovation and product development.

Only 0.02% of the word’s population can actually afford the space ticket. About 2 million people word wide can afford to go to space. source
