How to use HiveStats to improve the curation efficiency.

A lot of Articles are written in Hive explaining "how to write in Hive" and "How to engage in Hive" so that one can establish oneself as an author in the Hive blockchain. Interestingly Hive offers 50-50 rewards split between Authors and Curators, so if an author earned the amount "X" in his post, then all the curators also earned the amount "X" in the post.
Do all curators get an equal split in amount "X" ? Actually no, and it depends upon the Curator stake that participated in voting for the content and the "curation efficiency" of the curator for that post. Before I move forward, I would like to highlight that the article might not be applicable to "dust votes" i.e vote value less than 2 cents where various factors like no payment of post can easily dwindle the curation APR.

Mastering overall Curation APR

So above screenshot the curation APR in percentage (highlighted in yellow), this number is a good estimate but do not follow it blindly because, in my observation, this number keeps fluctuating with ±.3 in a single day. You can take a look here at your daily curation rewards for the absolute value of HP earned by you daily. In the current scenario, curation APR between 8 to 9 % is good.
Since the "stake" one has used to vote on a post is proportional to the rewards earned by one, so by rule of thumb, it is better to keep the vote percent slider (visible in the screenshot, just below the profile pic) to keep ass high and close to 100% (Ideally not possible, unless you bot it) but try to keep above at least 80% and below 100%. If it goes at 100% then it will be idle and you will lose your recharge rate of the voting power.
If you vote with too little voting power then the "stake" used in voting will be less and so the rewards. So voting in a single day to bring your voting power down is not at all efficient. Since voting power regenerates by 20% each day, so it is better to use 20% in a 24-hour window, and if you can further divide its use in multiple windows then it will be more nicer.
For ex, I use my morning and night (i.e. 2 windows in 24 hours) to use 20% of VP in a day like 10% in the morning and 10% in the evening, so that my minimum voting power lies in the range of 85 to 100%.

Mastering curation efficiency

Let's assume, you have mastered the first part but see the low curation APR, then it is time to dig into the second part of the Hivestats report that is under the heading of "Pending Curation Rewards". It will show the curation efficiency of each voted post. In idle cases, it should be 100 with a variance of ± 2, and it is fine. But if it comes much below then 100% then below might be possible reasons. (if it is above 100% then congrats)

Possible reasons for low curation efficiency.

One of the reasons is that you might be voting for posts older than 24 hours, which attracts the penalty for late voting and reduces your curation rewards. This you can easily verify by seeing the column "Voted After" in the Hivestats report of "Pending Curation Rewards".
If the above is not the reason, then I will suggest to visit that author's posts and check if the author is attracting any downvotes in the posts. If the author is getting downvotes then definitely it will reduce your curation efficiency.

Solution for low curation efficiency.

If you have a favorite author and you still vote for that author even after 24 hours have passed then you can use Hive.Vote for auto-vote the author within 24 hours of post-publishing time.
As far as downvotes are considered, fighting them is always counter-productive but it is always an individual choice, ideology, and relationship with the Author to keep continuing upvoting or not upvoting(to increase curation efficiency). I will leave this to one's discretion to take a call on this.
