Three Tune Tuesday #132 - 80-s gems

87 and 88 were extremely good and fruitful two years in music. Music was great and culture wasn't deranged. (And particularly in USSR, it was removing of inhibitions, opening of locks and closed doors, the exodus of rock from underground to the people). A great amount of bands appeared then, who became mainstream in 90-es and 2000-es. 80-es had a distinct style, it was topped in following post-millenium years, but still -- it was remarkable style.

Let me pull out of the memory hole these three names. Worth your attention! Bryan Ferry, Talking Heads, Duran Duran.

Bryan Ferry - Kiss and Tell

(official video; from «Bête Noire» LP, 1987)

If you ask some teenager on the street: “Who is Brian Ferry, do you know his music,” I suspect the answer will be zero; at best, someone will remember the hit 'Dont stop the dance', which had a big playback on music television. In the 80s, I also didn’t know who he was, but later I gradually discovered this name, most likely I saw this video on TV, the song was etched in my memory, but its name remained unknown, and most importantly, I didn’t know the name album! There was no Internet then, there was no Google, there were no music stores with helpful consultants... there was nothing! It was a matter of trial and error. I bought every Brian Ferry album I could find and on the 3rd or 4th try I discovered that I needed 'Bete Noire'.

The song I was looking for was called 'Kiss and Tell', and it was the second single from the album. (The song graced the soundtrack of the movie «Bright Lights, Big City» - if you want to feel nostalgic for the 80s, I recommend it!). It’s funny now, but at one time the song didn’t even make it into the UK top 40...

'Adam and Eve is the only game in town'... The song has luxurious lyrics on the theme of the eternal question - love, the relationship between a man and a woman. Truly, its one of the best songs from 80-s era, and it still rocks! Now days ... they dont do it like that anymore, hehe.

Note the amazing bass lines, groove, swing, and singing. NB - Guy Pratt was the guy who did not get credited, but actually created said bass line for the song; in an interview Guy Pratt said the bass line for this song was "the finest bass part I've ever come up with".

"'Bête Noire' sparkles as the highlight of Ferry's post-Roxy solo career, adding enough energy to make it more than 'Boys and Girls' part two. Here, his trademark well-polished heartache strikes a fine balance between mysterious moodiness and dancefloor energy..."

I count this album among my personal Top-50, if you are curious. Do check it, it is amazing and timeless masterpiece.

Talking Heads - Road to Nowhere

(official video; from «Little Creatures» LP, 1985)

Some folks out there state that 'Road to Nowhere' possibly is their favourite song in the universe... just imagine that.

I'd rather prefer not to talk much about this one. David Byrne is amazing and charismatic person, his band 'Talking Heads' became a brilliant example of alternative rock and freshened air a lot in early 80-es. Their music bears an immense charge of conceptualism, and video to this certain song is a vivid example. There is absolutely no guarantee you gonna like this. But you may try! and maybe you will discover a great new world to explore.

Duran Duran - Proposition

(official video; from «Notorious» LP, 1986)

The last one, but not the least; actually this song started playing in my playlist this Tuesday, and pushed me into this 80-es direction.

'Duran Duran' was a big name in 80-es. This song is from their 4th LP which for the band became transitional: they became trio, their sound have changed, lyrics became matured etc etc.

When I just started discovering the world of music and started collecting vinyl records, my picks were rather chaotic, at times based on attractive sleeve covers 😂 luckily I discovered this one. Its minimalistic monochrome sleeve attracted me like a moth, or maybe it was a game of random? one way or another, I listened to it hundred times since and still have an imprint. Any track from LP clicks me, but this one probably is an album's highlight.

'They don't do it like that anymore! Lucky we to have this music. I hope you enjoyed today's music selection, and travelling around the globe without leaving the Hive. 😎 The post goes for Three Tune Tuesday challenge run by @ablaze. Bring back the 80s! I miss the style and creativity of those times, not to mention the sounds of course. Bryan Ferry is very unique and special! I do love the Groove Armada mix of Shameless!

Oh man, three great ones! Bryan Ferry was awesome, Talking Heads, and Duran Duran. I think I have all three of those albums on vinyl, I'm glad I hung onto them!

Not many people know who Bryan Ferry is, it's a true shame. He made some great music. Proposition isn't one of those songs I've hear in a long time, it wasn't one of their "hits" but it's good! Talking Heads, they're all great! Great choices!

Wow, you have this on vynil??? Respect!
(I keep only Ferry's CD).
The times go by, generations change, and current generations are into the current stuff, (movies, books, etc). that is obvious... but we still can celebrate the oldies-goldies. 🎉 !BEER

ha! I mutated from 80-es guy to to 90-es, 70-es, 2000-es......... then 60-es, and now even look at 50-es (some occasional stuff). but I did not throw away anything, just add all good stuff to my piggy bank :P cant say I am totally carnivorous... but dont focus on a single genre or so. I like a lot of good music, and I am sure other folks may appreciate it too. But of course, folks always prefer their living contemporary acts, thats 100% true. thanks for your visit, and let me treat you with Hive !PIZZA - was made with !LUV, I am sure. ☘️

Coming from the old "hippie" days of freedom songs and great rock classics, is also just one of my favorites. But like you, I also have an ear for good modern music. Computerized music has not yet been to my liking, as I like all of the old and real musical instruments. To me, nothing is better that a set drum roll, accompanied by great lead guitar riffs and an organ sound in the background. But that's just my way and I realize the differences in people's tastes, so I just respect that.
A pleasure to visit and thank you for the !PIZZA and !LUV
