Republicans Downplay Past Anti-Abortion Stances
Republican candidates in close races across the country who once fervently backed severe abortion restrictions are shifting how they talk about the issue.
On social media, in public comments and in talking points on their websites, candidates are shying away from past hard-line positions and softening their stances. In some cases, the changes have been overt, with candidates reversing course on supporting outright bans on abortion or even denying they ever opposed it.

Trump Urges Supporters to Boost Trump Media Stock
Donald Trump on Friday urged his followers to support his social media app Truth Social, as its parent company’s stock continues to sink lower.
Trump in a post on that app said he believes Truth Social embodies the political ‘movement’ behind his ‘Make America Great Again’ presidential campaign slogan, adding that ‘it shows the Spirit and Love of our Country.’
It was at $70 just two weeks ago, closed below $33 yesterday. Good money to be made shorting the stock?

Abortion Is Key Issue in Swing States
Abortion is the most powerful issue driving suburban women who could decide the presidential election…
A recent Wall Street Journal poll of seven battleground states found that 39% of suburban women cite abortion as a make-or-break issue for their vote—making it by far the most motivating issue for the group. Nearly three-quarters of them say the procedure should be legal all or most of the time, and a majority thinks Trump’s policies are too restrictive.

The federal judge overseeing a case involving gun charges against Hunter Biden rejected efforts by the president’s son to have the case dismissed.
Judge Maryellen Noreika denied all five of Biden’s motions, keeping the case on track for a June trial in Delaware. Biden was indicted in September on three counts tied to possession of a gun while using narcotics.

DeSantis Stops Citizens from Probing Police Misconduct
Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a controversial bill Friday stripping citizen oversight boards of their power to investigate police misconduct.
The bill, HB 601, instead allows local chiefs of police agencies to create their own ‘civilian oversight’ boards composed of three to seven members, all appointed by the chief or sheriff. But these boards can only review policies and procedures, not oversee use-of-force complaints or internal affairs investigations.
