Uncovering the Secrets of Kingdom's Edge | Hollow Knight Gameplay

Hello, gamers. Welcome back to my blog.

The world of Hollow Knight is beautifully crafted and filled with a lot of dangers and every section gives you some sense of progression, be that from unlocking a new ability, defeating a mini-boss or just simply reading some new lore items and getting a better understanding of this kingdom of Hallownest.

"Ancient Basin" is one such place that seems to have a lot of hidden lore locked behind the door which I just can't enter yet. In the last episode, I found the 'Monarch Wings' after defeating the Broken Vessel. This new ability gave me the double jump which must have unlocked new sections of the maps, I had to go back to a few sections and reach the platform which was just another jump away from me! Now they can be accessed.

But before that, there was a Palace Grounds section here which looked like important but there was just one interesting thing, a broken gate or some sort of portal (?) with the corpse of a knight.

Just next to that was a hidden stag station. So, I can now quick travel back without taking the long route by tram and going through the deadly Deepnest.

But just before going into the Palace Grounds area, I saw a small room with a fountain installed with a statue of Pale King.

The sign there asked me to drop all my Geos so I get relieved from my burden. It sounded a bit suspicious but I dropped all my 2000+ Geos. (I thought I would get a charm or something).

I got SCAMMED by a statue!! That's a new low for me. This is the reason I have trust issues in life. But that's on me, they never promised anything in return and I just donated over 2K Geos for nothing??

Well, sh*t happens, but we move on! There was a damaged elevator on the right side of the map but you could still go up and I like these long vertical platforming sections in the game.

And guess what! It takes you to the "City of Tears" skipping the entire Royal Waterways section. I knew I missed something in this large city so I searched a lot and after almost half an hour found a path which was carefully hidden from sight and you had to swim in the water and go to the edge which looked like a wall but it wasn't and you could go through it.

Kingdom's Edge

There was a trapped grub that I helped escape and moving further east took me to a brand new section of Hallownest, the Kingdom's Edge.

The music and the colour tone here made it feel like something bad happened in this place and you could see some corpses of the bugs falling on the ledges from above, I wonder who is killing those.

Just like every new section, there were some unique bugs in here too. Boofley were the large ballony fly that was buzzing on one spot and they were passive even when you hit them. But that can't be said about every creature here.

There were Hoppers that jumped and followed the knight, they had long, spikey legs and tried to jump on you. Their movements are fast too. They come in two varieties, the regular, smaller ones which are pretty common here. The Great Hopper, which is a large version of it jumps very high and deals a good amount of damage.

Going further east, I found an interesting-looking hut with a resting bench next to it. Finding benches in new sections is always good, don't want to die and respawn all the way back to the last bench.

I still didn't have the map for this part of the kingdom and had to look for the Cartographer to get a map. Until then I have to just blindly take all the different paths and hope I can stumble upon something good.

I entered the hut suspecting it would be a boss battle but it was just a friendly guy, Nailmaster Oro, trying to teach me some new moves!

But I had to pay him 800 Geos and because of the fountain incident I was short on Geos so I had to leave and go further east and see if I could kill more enemies and collect the remaining Geos and get back here to learn whatever he has to offer.

There was a dummy outside which I could practice my skills on!

There were some hidden tunnels and rooms that you could break and go down. The platforming sections are not much challenging apart from a few little sections with those big hoppers.

I found a new charm, called Quick Slash. It was hidden behind a breakable wall. It costs 3 charm notches which is not bad for a charm that allows me to slash my nail quickly again. This can be a game-changer in some of the boss fights and having one extra nail slash can make all the difference.

I made a big loop underneath the hut of Nailmaster and got back to him. And this time I was close to the required amount of Geos, I farmed a few more Geos and finally got over 800. It was time to learn the new nail move.

After a small cutscene, I mastered the "Dash Slash". It is a combination of dash and slash where I have to hold the strike button and concentrate my energy first (it takes some time) and release the button when dashing and it performs the slash.

It was a disappointment, to be honest, that takes quite some time and using it against a boss where you don't have much time is practically impossible I guess.

Well, I left the place and retraced my path which had two separate paths and I chose this one. I found a grub and rescued it from the dangerous bugs.

I found an old tent with a resting spot inside. The old inhabitant's carcass was still hanging there with its journal lying on the floor. Sadly, we can't read these as they are written in old languages and only can be sold to a guy in the City of Tears. I wonder what this guy had to say about this weird place.

This was a good place to rest for me. There is still plenty of the area to explore... I never found the map of the place too!

Join me the next time we uncover more secrets of the Kingdom's Edge and see what mysteries lie in this part of the Hallownest!

Thanks for reading...

Until next time...
