Reached the Ancient Basin in the depths of Hallownest | Hollow Knight Gameplay

The land of Hallonest is filled with many bugs each having unique characteristics. There are a lot of NPCs you will find in this journey and most of them offer some services like selling or buying items and charms. One of the weirder characters is the Leg Eater found in the Fungal Wastes.

I wanted to buy a new charm notch so I can equip more charms and these charms help you get unique abilities and buffs. But to buy a new charm slot I had to collect a total of 25 charms and I only have 20 which I collected from so many different places, I don't even remember where each of the charms was from, some were given by the Grub father as a reward for saving his grubs, some were found in the hidden locations while others were dropped by dead bosses as rewards.

And three charms can be bought from the Leg Eater. I was close to him and had enough Geo to buy the charms this time so I paid a visit.

These are not the normal charms and can break if you die while they are equipped, then you have to come back to this guy to get it repaired. I like the Fragile Greed which helps me to loot more Geo from the enemies.

I crossed the Fungal Wastes and went to Fog Canyon to meet "Millibelee the Banker" and see if my deposited Geo are safe with her. Someone warned me to be cautious when dealing with the innocent-looking NPCs they can get away with my Geos.

But she was there and looked legit. I tried to withdraw my coins and it worked so I decided to deposit them back and even added another 1500 Geos. I was not running out of Geo as often as I used to in the early game.

I was headed to one of the deadliest places, the Deepnest and I didn't want to have a lot of coins with me. I left just around 1500 so I could pay for unlocking stag stations and things like that.

But why I was going back to the Deepnest? Because the last time I went there I did not take the tram which seems to connect to an unexplored part of the Hallownest. Deepnest is dark and scary with so many crawling bugs that come out of nowhere. There are some big bugs like Garpede which travels through the tunnels and waits for none. They have a thick shell so they can't take damage too.

There was a barrier which I could not cross just below the tram station. Not sure what I need to go across that... Anyway, I went straight for the Tram station after clearing some challenging platforming sections.

I was here before but this time I had come with the Tram pass and I used it to activate the tram. I used the pass to activate it and it lit up with orange light.

It dropped me to an unknown area with black and white colours only, this was a completely new area of Hallownest where I never came before. I had no maps or signs and there were a few paths that I could take.

I could go towards the left or drop down to this hole where the light was coming from or just go up and exit this room. I chose to go left first.

Each new section comes with its unique enemies. I was greeted by a crawling bug which attacks by spitting acid when you are far away and slashes with claws when you come close. This one is called the "Lesser Mawlek".

I was ambushed by a couple of them on a platform which I killed with not much difficulty. There were some flying bugs which spit acids at you too. Once I cleared the area, an old friend appeared who was terrified of them and was hiding.

Her name is 'Cloth', we have met a few times before and saw her in Deepnest the last time. She must have made her way here somehow without using the Trams.

She got inspired by my courage and she now looks more confident. Hopefully, she will help us in our journey. I have a feeling that she is going to save us from a difficult situation.

I got to a place where a carcass of a big creature was lying on the ground and along with it lies the precious 'Pale Ore'. They are used to upgrade our primary weapon, our nail. Now I just need one more (if I remember correctly) to upgrade our nail. Nail upgrades are so helpful in the game. I use it almost exclusively when dealing with enemies and use my soul to replenish my health only and very rarely for spells.

I was somewhere below the Royal Waterways and needed to find the Cartographer as quickly as I could. I had to backtrack after collecting that pale ore and went back to the Tram Station. This time I dropped down to the tunnel from where the bright white light was coming.

And this is where it showed me the name of the area. Ancient Basin!

There were more of those Lesser Mawleks in this area along with some small beetles like bugs, which were easy to deal with. I saved a grub from a Mawlek.

Finally, I saw some paper lying on the floor and if you follow the paper trail it will take you to Cornifer, the Cartographer. I followed the trail and there he was working on his maps like always.

How he finds his way before me to all these dangerous places is still a mystery. Maybe he is the final boss I had to fight...lol

I bought the map which cost just 112 Geo and now I know why. There was still a major part of it missing and I had to fill it on my own by exploring these areas.

I found a toll machine which took another 150 Geo but unlocked a bench for me. I rested on the bench after a long journey lost in thoughts about which direction to go next. Unlocking a new area is always exciting and I wonder what will be the boss in this section or if I will get a new spell or ability soon. Can't wait to explore more!
