Morning hunts in Silver Ridge Peaks | theHunter: Call of the Wild

avatar

Hello, gamers. Welcome back to my blog.

I had another fun session of playing thehunter: Call of the Wild. There is a new update which added another DLC reserve map located in the Australian continent. This is the first map from there. I might buy that DLC later this month.

Anyways, I fired up my game and choose my favourite reserve, the Silver Ridge Peaks. This reserve is filled with multiple species with a great population of large game like Plains Bisons and Black Bear.

When I started it was already 1600 hours and I hate hunting in the dark. Maybe I might buy some night vision sights and binoculars later. But I was in no mood to go out at night. So, I slept on the bed and took the rest. I skipped the time to around 7:30 in the morning. It costs a small amount every time you sleep.

I woke up from the rest and it was a beautiful morning. I looked all around me to spot any animals I could see. Luckily, on the western side, there was a small hill and some Pronghorns were grazing there. They were still far away so I decided to get closer.

I had my handgun with me as well and there are still many pieces of equipment locked under a 'handgun score' wall so I need to hunt more with handguns and unlock that weapons and scopes.

There was a hunting stand as well and the most difficult part was Pronghorn have good sense and were standing on the open field. So, it would be difficult to get close to them without spooking them but I had to get closer if I wanted to have a chance of getting it from my handgun. Sadly the handgun has no scopes and only can be unlocked after I made some kills with it.

As I feared, pronghorns got aware of my presence and fled the area. When I reached close to that hunting stands they were already hundreds of meters away and travelling and I had only their backs to shoot which would not have been lethal so I let them go.

I climbed onto the hunting stand which faces a small lake. I searched for any animal which would have come to drink water but found no one. Maybe it was a little early in the day for a water break.

On the opposite side, there was a big open field and I saw a couple of groups of Plains Bisons. They were eating calmly.

Just beside this small group of Bisons, there was a lonely female Back Bear eating her catch. It must be over 300 meters but I still took the shot. I knew the bullet hit her but was not sure if it was the backbone or the lungs. The bullet drops after 300 meters should be significant so I aimed a little higher.

The group that was close to the Bear got spooked by the bullet and the Bear ran close to them. Luckily, there was another small herd. I could see them. Standing on an elevated hunting stand is very advantageous, especially in areas like this where there is a large open field and grazers are all over the place.

Have a look at this paradise for grazers. Long and green grass sprawled for hundreds of meters in every direction.

I searched for the Bear which I just shot. I followed the footprints and blood trails. From the initial blood splatter, I got to know that it didn't hit any vital organs. So, I might have to track it for a long.

But I found it easily and after I harvest it I knew why. Even though my bullet didn't hit any vital organs like the heart, lungs, liver and brain but the bullet hit the Vertebrae which also results in quick kills. I overestimated the bullet drop and now I know why.

It was not as far as I thought. I was thinking it was over 300 meters away easily.

I also saw a Merriam Turkey strolling on the ground. I took the shot quickly and it dropped dead instantly.

I had no weapon or ammo which was class 1 so I didn't complete all the harvest checks and this gave me only a bronze trophy.

I also tracked down the Bison which I shot from the top of the hunting stand. This one was easy to track. I hit two shots and one of them was on the left lung so this Bison had no chance to live for long.

I went on to another area to look for pronghorns. And I was lucky... a small group was travelling and coming towards me. Later they changed their direction and went towards the left.

I kept aiming at them and waited for them to stop so I can get a good shot. One of the males stopped abruptly, maybe to see if there are some predators around.

This was my chance and I took the shot with my 7mm magnum rifle. I was not taking any risk this time. They are one of the fastest land animals and can fly from the scene if they sense any danger.

This was a relatively bigger male weighing almost 54 kg with a nice couple of horns. It was an almost gold trophy level but I had to settle with a silver for now. Hopefully, I can get some gold and even diamonds someday.

Until that day I will keep looking for more kills. One of these days I am going to bag a diamond one.

Thanks for reading...

Until next time...

Call of the wind is an interesting game. You explain your hunting experience perfectly. You know all the angle of hunting. Did you experience hunting in real life?

No, I have not experienced hunting nor I want to do that. In fact, I am not even a meat eater. I won't even kill a bird.

Thanks for stopping by.

Oooh you can rest in the game as well? That's epic.
Loved the screenshots, especially I'm amazed seeing the big open world. Can you go anywhere you wish to or do you just have to stay in some barricade or something like that?

You can practically go anywhere in the game. Even at the top of mountains (if the slope is not too steep).
Only you can't go into deep water but you can still go in like knee-deep water and walk around.

Yes, you can take rest and wake up at any time. This is useful when you are after specific animal and you know their need zones (like drinking zone or resting zone) and you can go their at specific time to find them. Also different animals remains active in different time of the day.

That structure you see me in the above photos have some advantage. Firstly it can't be constructed at any place so they are scarce and strategically placed on the map.
Secondly, they give me better view like a bird eye view of the surrounding land.
Also, it keeps me hidden from the animals and when I hunt from inside the "hunting structure" it will put less 'hunting pressure' on the land so animals will return to the place and not be so scared to get back there.
