In search of a Team member in Medved-Taiga | theHunter: Call of the Wild

I have been hunting in the harsh and cold environment of Medved-Taiga Reserve. So, far it has been a lot of fun and challenging too. There are a lot of predators in this map including the brown bears, grey wolves and Eurasian Lynx. The last time I was hunted by a pack of Grey Wolves! Here is the post if you want to read about that exciting encounter.

I reached an outpost and was informed by the warden of another teammate. His name is 'Gunther Baden' and they lost communication with him after a blizzard last week. All we know is he was low on food and trying to hunt some deer but he is not a good hunter and mostly excels in scientific data collection only.

So, it is our job to go to one of his campsites and look over his safety. But before that, we were given the task of hunting an animal so we could bring meat to Gunther.

I went out in search of an animal. I came across a frozen river and this seemed to be a good place for me as I could more of the landscape. My eyes caught something moving in the reeds just on the other side of the river.

It was an attentive moose trying to assess if we possessed a danger. We were far away for his poor eyesight to spot us. I crouched and moved slowly and once I was in good range, I took the shot.

I used the shotgun but failed to hit vital organs, but I didn't care. My focus was to just get it down somehow so I shot it a few more times and eventually one of the bullets hit the liver and he died. I should have used my rifle and it would be a much cleaner shot.

Anyway, now that I had some meat with me, it was time to go to Gunther's last known location and see if I could find him.

It wasn't too close to my outpost so I decided to use my ATV.

Riding an ATV is fun but it makes a lot of loud noise and most of the animals will get spooked and run far away if you decide to use it. I use it if I want to cover long distances quickly where walking would take so much time.

We found the campsite, it was close to a frozen lake and it looked like he was out of supplies. He was not in the camp but some footsteps were going out so we followed the tracks.

The footsteps took us to a hunting structure but there was no sign of him there too. We were getting frustrated now and the warden sent us to another camp to investigate.

Fortunately, I still had the ATV so I drove to the next campsite and he was not there as well.

But there was a note from Gunther where he explained that he crashed his ATV and broke her communication device after he got hit by a storm and ran out of food. He also wrote that he was suffering from a cough and fever and needed medication soon and being out of food he went out to hunt.

We heard some noises coming from the nearby area, sounded like an animal was hurt and suffering from pain. It must be the doing of Gunther, he must have failed to kill the animal and now the animal was just roaming in pain.

We found some blood splatters on the snow and it looked like they were at most a couple of days old. So, Gunther might still be alive, hopefully.

My task was now to find that injured reindeer and relieve it from the pain. I was looking around and moving slowly just to not scare away the animals. I was following the blood trail and saw a big bear come out from the bushes, and almost stop in front of me.

I quickly switched to my shotgun and took a couple of quick shots. It was a female but still gave me a silver trophy.

These shots created a panic and I could hear a lot of footsteps. As I was about to harvest that female another bear came running towards me, I was not sure if he was coming to attack me or just running after hearing those gunshots.

Lucky for me, he passed very close to me and I took another shot. It was a good lung shot and only one hit was enough to take down this beast. This one was a male and weighed almost 300 kg.

But these loud gunshots meant that the reindeer I was going after was long gone. So, it was no point chasing after it now.

Looks like this part of the map is filled with Brown Bears, I heard some more warning calls but could see more.

I saw a moose too but it quickly vanished in the bushes, as quickly as it appeared.

I am hoping that Gunther is safe and doing fine. This is a very challenging environment and surviving in this part of the world is not easy, especially when you lack hunting skills. I will continue to look for clues about Gunther but my hopes are not super high, tbh. Let's see how this chapter comes to a close.
