Hunting in the Siberian paradise and completing new quests | theHunter: Call of the Wild

Hello, gamers. Welcome back to my blog.

The campaign in Medved-Tiaga is interesting as we encountered the unfortunate death of a team member who died after eating contaminated meat from a diseased deer. He got stuck in a blizzard and we found him dead after a week. It was an unfortunate event and now the warden of the park along with other biologists are trying to figure out if the disease has spread to other animals as well.

So, we were contacted by a biologist who gave us the task to hunt musk deer with intact lungs, we completed that quest in the last session and he found no traces of anthrax in that deer carcass. But our job is not yet finished, he now wants us to kill a Wild Boar and like the last time we need to make sure the lungs are undamaged.

I was close to a lake and decided to go there, they are the hotspot of animal activities. Just like I expected I found a small group of Moose drinking by the lake.

One of them was a level 3 male and was standing away from the rest of the group. I wanted to hunt more than one from this group and for that, I had to make a silent kill with my bow and bow are not the most precise and you need to get closer so I walked quietly and slowly keeping an eye on that moose.

I took cover in the reeds that grew on the edge of the lake and decided to call them in. I take a moose caller with me on my hunts so I can call them in.

These callers work well in short range and when the animals are calm. The first ones to come are the smaller females that are easier to kill but the bigger ones always come at the last. But I waited for my target to come closer and only then I shot my arrow.

There were no restrictions on this, unlike the Wild Boar which I have to not hit in the lungs. Lungs are one of the easiest to aim at, especially with any big animals like Moose, Bisons, Buffalos etc.

This bow and arrow is very powerful and can easily pierce through that moose, especially when shooting at a close distance. It was a big male, weighing more than half a ton. But only got me a silver medal, it could easily make a gold, at least it looked like one from the distance.

All the other animals got spooked anyway and ran away. In that chaos, I heard a sound from a unique bird. These are called "Western Capercaillie". I had never encountered these species in any other maps before so this was a new one to me. I had to open up Codex to get more info about this species.

So, they are the largest of all grouse birds. I looked up what are grouse and saw they are just medium to large game birds, they look like slimmer versions of turkeys...lol

And like most other birds males are bigger and have bright distinguishable colors and they are mostly solitary. It makes sense that they heard the commotion at the lake and flew off.

Now that I found a new species to hunt, I went in the direction of where the sound came from and soon found a resting spot with a lot of footprints on the snow.

I followed the tracks and after some time found a flock of those birds sitting on the ground. They were all females as I suspected.

Somehow they sensed me and warming calls started to hit my ears. That's when I picked up my shotgun which was loaded with bird shots and just started shooting at them without scope.

I killed three and only one managed to get away. They took some time before taking off, they started running first and by that time I shot two. And the last one was shot when it just launched off the ground. That was a very successful hunt and my friend @morenow must be proud of my hunting. (I saw he is hunting turkeys too haha)

All of them just gave me a bronze medal, now the challenge for me is to find a nice-looking male. They are surely worth more than these females.

In the excitement of finding a new species of bird to hunt, I forgot about my quest to hunt a Wild Boar but now I remembered again and went looking for clues. I found an old track and followed it. It took me all the way back to the lake where I started and I saw the moose had returned to the lake again.

But this time there were no males just smaller females who didn't give the best of rewards. On the far side of the lake was a Musk deer, it might be going after its drink time is over or just getting to a place to eat. I followed it for a while and when it stopped and I was close enough, I took the shot.

This time I used my 7 mm rifle which was an overkill on this small deer but I wanted to make sure I got a quick kill. I was in no mood to run after it and wait for it to die. I missed an easy lung shot and it barely hit the vertebrae and luckily I got the kill. It was a messy shot, used the wrong gun and didn't even hit a vital organ so no trophy for me with this kill...lol

I lost that track and it was getting darker so quick travelled to the nearest outpost, rested and changed time and took my ATV out for a ride.

I wanted to go to the other side of the map and walking takes a lot of time, the map is pretty big so having an ATV to drive to the other side of the map is always helpful. I bought this as a DLC so I better make use of it.

Anyway, I was just driving on these old railway tracks and the loud noise of the ATV must have spooked a group of Wild Boars and they came running past me. I got out of the vehicle quickly and took a shot at one of them. I didn't have time to think as they were running so I took a couple of quick shots.

The second shot hit it barely missing the lungs and that's how I completed this quest. It was just a miracle, after looking for them in the forest for so long and finding all the other animals they just came running towards me and the shot that hit barely missed the lungs too which was the condition to pass the mission. What a lucky encounter!

I roamed around for a while just soaked in the feeling of walking into the Siberian wilderness and this game makes you experience it with its beauty and amazing ambient sounds.

I took some nice shots of the landscapes and decided to call it a day. I will leave you with one of the shots.

Thanks for reading...

Until next hunt...

I'm very proud of you, when I grow up I want to be like you hahaha.

You had an excellent hunt, I didn't have much luck last time, but you know how it is.

I have some questions my friend: how do you take the capture? what's the name of the DLC where the ideal weapon to kill birds is? how do you place the character in third person?

Hahaha...

I capture the screenshots mostly by using my steam screenshot key (F12 for me) and sometimes with the ingame camera that you can acces by pressing "P".

The name of the DLC is "Weapon Pack 1" and the ideal weapon ko kill birds is .22LR rifle which you will get in that DLC. Sometimes it is good to hunt with a shotgun and use "bird shot" ammo with that. Only use it when you are close and don't care about the loud noise it makes.

You can put the character in third person only when you are driving that ATV car. I bought it as a seperate ATV.
