First Impressions of Medved-Taiga National Park and hunting with Morenow | theHunter: Call of the Wild

Hello, gamers. Welcome back to my blog.

There are 14 maps/reserves in theHunter:Call of the Wild with their unique environments, species and locations. Out of those 14 only 2 come with the base game and the rest have to be purchased as DLCs. I have bought a few DLC maps and the latest that I bought is the frozen land of Siberia, the "Medved-Taiga National Park".

From the map descriptions I can read that there are many species that I can hunt on this map ranging from the big predators Brown bear to the small musk deer.

I have another map where it snows and the landscapes change dynamically but Medved-Taiga is a completely frozen and snowy land and is a very inhospitable place. I would not survive in such a place but I was excited to enter the reserve for the first time and see what secrets it holds.

I was briefed by the warden of the reserve, Dr. Alena. Who told us that I was brought in to study the effect of climate change in this harsh environment and a hunter would be a perfect candidate to do this kind of expedition and help them with valuable data samples? My task would be to gather data and access the wildlife population which is not going to be an easy task in winter here. Luckily, the game is not focused on survival and I can get by only hunting.

Alena gave us the mission to locate, track and kill an animal. This is like a tutorial which I saw in many other maps too, the first kill is always easy and I could see some tracks right away.

We have reindeer on this map too and it would be nice to catch a big one this early. But my attention was drawn to the little musk deer who was standing not so far from me.

It was a Siberian Musk Deer, a very small one too, just weighing between 7-9 kg. I don't think I hunted a deer this small in any of the other maps.

I used my bow but only managed to hit his back and missed all the vital organs. It still ran a little far before dying which showed that my shot was a bad one.

That was just a small female, weighing just 7 Kg which is much smaller than my dog, Sheru.

This completed my very first mission on this map. My next mission was to locate a lookout point and survey the area from up there. Around this time, it started to snow lightly which made the visibility a little low.

I could see a watch tower in the distance so I started marching towards it but there was a surprise for me lying on one of the rocks. A shedded antler, collecting those will give you a couple of hundred bucks or so and some XP.

I heard some reindeer calls which I ignored as I was trying to get to the watch tower first and I can get distracted with all the wildlife and end up going too far. XD

Fortunately, the watch tower wasn't that far and I got to it quickly. I climbed to the top while Sheru waited for me on the ground. They should allow the dog to climb watch towers too. Sad to see him lying there waiting for me to come back down.

Even from the top, all you will see is just white snowy terrain filled with some forested patches and on the far end, it seemed to be an ocean or at least liquid water.

My next objective was to visit an outpost which unlocks the quick travel location and you can access store and resting facilities to change time.

But before going there I wanted to hunt some animals. And there was a group of lakes I could see on my map and I decided to go there.

From the map, it looked like there was going to be water but they were completely frozen and all of them looked like a big frozen lake.

But look what I found, a small group of Moose drinking from the frozen lake somehow...lol

I was in the open and had a big white frozen lake that was separating me from my game. I had to crawl my way across the lake slowly. Applied some scent eliminator as the wind was not helping me so much.

I wanted to kill more than one that's why I wanted to get close and take shots with my bow and arrow. When I was around 60 meters and one of the Moose showed signs of alertness, I took my shot and it died very quickly. I took another shot at its mate and I got two in two arrows. I got rewarded for my patience.

The bigger male gave me a silver trophy while the other female has no trophy ratings. I thought the male would be a gold as he had big pairs of antlers but his weight was not enough to get him to gold.

My first impression of this map is positive, it gives a different feel to hunting. Doing hunts on the sides of frozen lakes and snowy mountains is going to be a nice change of scenery. I am excited to see how the campaign turns out on this map.

Another interesting thing that happened during this weekend was hunting with a friend @morenow. He already talked about his experience on this post, so I will just share a few pictures that I took during our time playing together in the game.

We killed a lot of animals during that session, one of Morenow's first kill was a big male pronghorn. They can only be found on this map and I love hunting them here. Here is Morenow posing with his kill.

There was another time when he tried to shoot some big bison with a bow. This was not the best bow to shoot a large animal like that but he tried xD

He also shot down a big black bear right through the forest which I think is the best shot he took. The bear was not fully visible but he took a good shot which killed the bear quickly.

We had some funny moments too when an aggressive Bison tried to kill us. He came very close but we shot it down by raining bullets on him. Poor animal... xD

I loved hunting with a friend and the game handled it very well too even when we are located in completely different parts of the world. I didn't feel any lag and that's great to see. We will hunt again soon!

Thanks for reading...

Until next hunt...

I'm going to buy the DLC little by little, I need better tech weapons.

It was a lot of fun going hunting with you, the bison was furious and tried to kill you, I understand that because of the amount of arrows you stuck the poor guy with.

I don't understand what Rasputin is doing there if I left him in the tent, in my game I couldn't see him. There was no dog when we were playing.

I only buy DLCs when they are on sale. This map I bought a couple months ago, I think and never played it as I was busy exploring all the other maps.

I don't understand what Rasputin is doing there if I left him in the tent, in my game I couldn't see him. There was no dog when we were playing.

That was my dog, Sheru. Maybe the game doesn't show you my dog.
