Beauty of Yukon Valley, Alaska | theHunter: Call of the Wild

Hello, gamers. Welcome back to my blog.

We are continuing our journey of exploring the new Yukon Valley Nature Reserve and finding out what species we can hunt here. Until now, I have seen and hunted Moose only. They are not found exclusively on this map. I am most excited about finding and hunting predators like grey wolves and grizzly bears. That would be a big challenge.

Last time we landed up in an area called 'Lumbershore'. It is surrounded by water from three sides with a small outpost on the western edge of the ground. I was looking around in this area and saw some tracks from "Caribou". On further investigation, they were fresh tracks.

The next thing I heard was a warning call from Caribou indicating I was way too close than I anticipated and that I should be making much less noise. Anyways, it started to flee the area but I spotted him. He was a big level 3 male who wanted to escape from that area.

I followed him and was ready with my weapon. The moment he stopped to think about something, I took my shot. It was not the best shot and it looked as if I had missed the lungs which I intended to shoot at.

You can see the blood splatter and see if you missed the vital shot or not. Just as I expected, I failed to hit any vital organs but still managed to get a shot on a non-vital organ and this would mean I have to track down the animal for a long time before he finally drops dead.

Luckily, I had a bloodhound who can track down the injured animal easily. So, he did the job and we both were after the Caribou. We were going through a forest and it took a long time for us to track him down. I didn't expect him to survive for this long before dying. This was my first Caribou so I shouldn't have expected anything...lol

Anyways, at last, we found our hunt and I harvest it. On the harvest screen, you will see the 'Truscore' analysis of its antlers. No two animals will have an identical pair of antlers. You can see in the below screenshot that we tracked this one for almost 800 meters.

I used the Rangemaster 338 but was only able to pierce the intestines and since it is not a vital organ, even with this hit my Caribou managed to run away and cover a distance of nearly 800 meters. They have a large pair of lungs and a large enough liver as well. Next time I will be making sure to aim at only those. I think I missed the shot because he was travelling.

I continued to look around for more animal clues and found myself near a small pond. This was a good location as I saw a herd of Plains Bison. This was their drinking time and they were calmy drinking water on the edge of the pond.

I slowly approach without making much noise and when I was close enough to the herd. I took out my 338 again and aimed at the biggest male I could see from the herd.

Most of them were females though. These Bison have huge lungs and are very difficult to miss. I took the shot and the poor guy dropped dead on the spot. The .338 magnum is extremely powerful.

Although this was only a minor weighing about 700 kg, it still gave me a silver trophy. I want to buy another rifle which comes with this DLC and for that, I need to have 75K in-game cash. I will buy it and test how it feels.

As I was walking through a lush green spruce forest, it started to snow and within a minute the whole forest started to change. It all became snowy with snow on tree leaves and the ground. I had never experienced this dramatic change in experience within minutes.

I loved this dynamic weather and environment. The rain in other maps would create some small water splatters on the ground but it was a subtle change.

My dog was also enjoying the snowfall.

I left the forest and came back to near the water basin, where I started my session, to see if the weather and snow affected that place as well. And yes, it did. All the small shrubs and grass had white snow over them. The entire landscape was looking different.

I found an unfinished hunting structure so I paid for its completion and it was ready. I can now stand inside and will be hidden from the animals. Also, it will put way less hunting pressure on this area. I looked around but found no animals. So, I eventually left this place. Sadly, I can't take the hunting structure anywhere with me. They are found in some prime hunting locations only.

When I was walking through a dense forest I found a warning call from a Moose. I crouched down and started to approach the sound very slowly. I was making sure I don't spook the animal. I walked like this for a long time. This was a test of my patience.

At times, you won't stand up and go faster but that means risking it and exposing yourself to the animal. I was very slow and steady. You can also direct your dog to lie down so it won't spook any animal either.

I found a female moose sitting nervously on a slope of a small hill. Luckily she was facing the other side and can't see me approaching. Also, the wind was not a problem for me.

When I was way too close I shot from the most powerful rifle I had, the Rangemaster 338. This was a heavy blow, I even removed the scope as it was a very close shot. To my surprise, even with a vital shot from this close, she managed to run away and cover 500 meters. I never expected that else I could have taken the second shot quickly.

The dynamic weather adds a nice touch to the entire map. I have not yet encountered every species and there are a lot of them here in this map. I am looking forward to exploring more of the reserve while also completing some story missions and seeing what the campaign has to offer.

Thanks for reading...

Until next time...

You can see the blood splatter and see if you missed the vital shot or not.

This is one of the things I loved about this game. It seemed like the devs actually understood hunting, as in reality when you hunt you can tell whether you hit an organ or not by the color of the blood. Bright red usually means a lung/heart shot!

Yes, some of the developers are real-life hunters and it has to translate into the game as well. Although I have never hunted outside of the game and I never knew hunting games can be fun too. Before trying this game, I always thought hunting games are the most boring genre but I can now see why some people like games like this.

I don't plan to hunt in real life nor I am allowed to in my country (India) but I can enjoy it via a harmless game...right? Tells you a lot about the world we are living in today. xD

Thanks for stopping by, bro. Have a great day!

This reminds me of a TV show that I enjoy watching called 'Alone'

Hmm, haven't seen it... Is that like a survival show where someone is trying to survive in the wilderness alone?

Thanks for the tokens.

I love the nice views the snowy map has, it gives it quite a relaxing touch. Although I haven't played this, I feel like I'm pretty vitiated with what might happen to you in the next game haha. Cheers :)
