Independent University, Decentralized Social Media .:. Early Thoughts #1

I remember when I was going to University and there was a big discussion about keeping the independence of University... As that topic arose, it meant that there wasn't independence and that country (government, politicians, powerful companies) were involved in "ruling" in Universities... So, what's a big deal about it?

Well, that question didn't bother me that much then, but today, I get some things much better... When you begin to compare that thing with some other actual occurring... Independent University should mean that nobody from the outside is creating what you should learn, or what you shouldn't learn... But, why would we allow that? That's stupid and dangerous? Who knows what those "minds" will put in their head?

I'm always for learning new things and for transparency... Why would we hide some historical fact from anyone? It was too ugly and we are embarrassed by that? Well, if you SEE that, you will never repeat the same mistake... If someone HIDES that from you, you can unintentionally (or intentionally) do the same mistake...

The whole point is in different opinions and ALLOWING people to have them and to discuss... I know that I'm repeating myself with this, but it is crucial in these moments to have critical thinking... If education is centralized, we are creating SAME thinking, SAME people, without a difference... How can we be creative? How can we got to some ideas if we can't discuss different opinions...

And that is just one problem... Another problem is FORCING people to "think" (or better say ACT) the same... Earlier, it was done by "bribing" (again, maybe we can say lobbying...), but also a very effective method was FEAR... And that method is used again these days... a lot...

I don't want to go too wide, but you probably get the worldwide image that is created and it's based on FEAR, but I would like to talk about a similar thing on the blockchain... And I have to mention HIVE here as it is my home, my base...

I like HIVE, and 80% of my work is based there... I root for it, and the chain has huge potential, and some great projects that are built there as well... And yes, it is decentralized social media, but only to a certain extent...

The problem with decentralization is that you should "leave" your guns outside, and enter the room without them... I mean, you have to be equal with others, and that is, unfortunately, not a case... yet... To be honest, it is hard to create 100% decentralized social media, but...

I have to look back at this topic... We have a downvote thing on Hive that does its work, but in the eyes of some big whales, it serves for "educating" people how to "act on the Hive", which takes us back to that "uni-vision" where we are creating a pattern (or the box) and keep ourselves inside...

Hive has been imagined like a social media network, but if you have scratched the surface, you have noticed that it has grown into much more than just that... There are some awesome dApps and games that have nothing to do with the initial idea, but they are contributing a lot to the whole ecosystem... The same thing happened to other blockchains where they started as one thing and developed into something different... Something more advanced and better...

So, we shouldn't stay in the box... It's time to go out and research new ideas and options for the future...

Thank you for your valuable time,

Sad thing about us humans is about every 200-300 years we repeat our same mistakes and the worst of us all because we forget to teach and understand how important history is.

Correct that Hive at first and kind of still is a article marketing site over anything else. However this is changing and it's going to be changing at a rapid pace over the next two years. This is why I'm diving fully into it and staking like crazy.

Hive but I think more importantly the tribes that make up hive are going to reshape social media before any other blockchain does.

every 200-300 years we repeat our same mistakes

I wouldn't be that conservative with numbers... The number of years (cycles) is rapidly lowering... I would say that some of the "mistake cycles" are only 7-8 years... Think about an economic crisis or some financial moves... It depends on the "field" of investigation, but we both agree that we are repeating the same shit over and over... People forget things that happened 3 days ago...

And regarding Hive... I got a bit pessimistic about it lately, as I dived into some dramas (we don't have a lack of that here, for sure) where people are stuck in a 5-6 years ago mentality and pushing the same shit on others... Without noticing all the new stuff on the chain and the REAL value of those things...

But, I'm not quitting :) Just trying to see the big picture... Cheers!

Have an awesome weekend!

Good point there are for sure mistakes made that have much lower cycles sadly.

Fully agree with the vibes around here lately as I started to dig into things and how truly centralized it's become along with no real innovation. It feels like they are stuck on changing APR rates and reward curves instead of actually building something. Feels like a waste of resources and I feel that Hives DOA should go to some of these tribes to be honest.

Unfortunately that is how the current system is acting and people are just doing whatever they are told. But with the public forum, news and government all working together, we are limited in what we can possibly do.

HIVE is great because we can have different opinions and nobody can just kick us off. But the problem with HIVE is that we don't have enough users and the marketing/retention isn't the greatest.

Yeah... The best thing that we can do about "public, mainstream media, etc" stuff is to NOT PARTICIPATE in that... Not giving importance to them... Or better said, disconnect from it..

It is true that HIVE doesn't have enough users, marketing, retention... and we should work on that and SEE why it is like that? I don't see a lot of that... I see that people big names on HIVE are stacking their tokens, and actually working in the opposite way... Playing police on the Hive and punishing small people indirectly, and sometimes even directly... But, again... The situation can change... That's why we shouldn't quit! :)
