One-Line Comments .:. Good thing, bad thing, or meh?

▶️ Watch on 3Speak

I was talking before about the importance of engagement on any social media platform, how it's crucial for you to comment on others' posts, and to reply to the comments on your posts... It is the best way that people notice you which very often leads that they follow you, and upvote or tip your post in the future...

The next step is to learn how to properly engage with others... It looks a bit weird that some of these things have to be said as they are just normal, polite, respectful human behavior, but implemented online, on the platform...

I see a lot of times comments that are saying only "Thanks", "Thank you", "Have a nice day", etc... Those words are great, but not if they are the ONLY words in your comment... BEFORE them you should write a meaningful comment about the content that you have just read/watch, and then finish with "thanks"...

Why? Well, the author of the post (or the comment that you are replying to) has invested HIS TIME and effort to create that content, which you have consumed, and maybe it helped you in some way... So, isn't just normal to do at least the SAME as the author and reply with a respectful comment that will maybe ADD VALUE to their content?

About this and a couple of other things, I have talked in this vlog... Please, take a look and check why this bad practice can be harmful to your image on the social media network...

Thank you for your valuable time,

~ph~

You already KNOW I agree on this topic. Engagement is a super important thing to do here on the blockchain & I think all of us know that....but HOW we do is what is key. Not everybody understands THIS....

I sometimes feel irritated when I put a nice comment on someone's post that brought value & then I get a one or two word reply. This doesn't have to be a book (I don't expect that) but a neutral "nice" or "thanks" really doesn't give me room to further the discussion or even add value to either one of us. After once or twice of that, I tend to shy away & not reply on their content anymore, even if it's really good...

I think if we were all just a little mindful of how we respond to each other & remind ourselves that this would be as if we were having a live face to face conversation, it would help immensely. Just a couple of valuable sentences would change things completely...

Great video, Zoltan.. we can never have too many videos reminding us to do this. Believe me, I've ranted a few times on it haha. :) Have a great weekend! 💜

This is exactly the same as I feel when I try to engage with someone... After a while, I question myself why am I commenting at all if it's not appreciated... I mean, if the author doesn't reply, that means that he doesn't need engagement or comments... So, that's exactly how I respond after that... Don't comment anymore...

I think if we were all just a little mindful of how we respond to each other & remind ourselves that this would be as if we were having a live face to face conversation, it would help immensely.

And this is another good point... I have a feeling sometimes that some people on the other side of the Internet think that these comments are written by robots, and treat others like that... As you said, treat people online the same as you will treat them in life...

Thanks for your kind words and comment!

No wonder you are THE Mister Engagement!
Your words of wisdom in this matter are so so important and sadly some people don't appreciate it!
I normally reply kind of at the same level as they reply to me.
If they give me a one-line, I also give a one-line reply. If someone takes the effort to give a good quality comment I also do my best to give a proper reply!
If my posts don't get any engagement it's all on me so I need to analyze and see what I can do to change that and improve - this should be the best way to think but sadly just a few will realize it
Because for this blockchain to grow needs a good and proper content flow and it's up to us to keep that running!
Thank you so much for your time and good quality content!

I do the same... If someone didn't show the effort to read/watch (as that is usually a reason for short comments), I will not waste my time doing it differently... It's not that I do an act of revenge or something... it is just saving my time for people who appreciate it more...

For any social media network is important to have a relationship with your audience... If you don't have it, you will not grow... it's simple as that...

ANd here on Hive, I saw accounts that have over 3-4K followers and zero comments on their posts... + low amount of upvotes... So, it's not all about the numbers...

Cheers! Wish you the best!

Yeah no revenge at all...it's on them to figure out themselves what's wrong lol
What we can do and if it's from their own initiative come to us and ask for advice, in that case, I will help. If not, I will carry on my adventures 😁
Hope you and yours are safe from the madness out there 💜

Yeah no revenge at all...it's on them to figure out themselves what's wrong lol

Actually, people have this post and numerous other posts out there where they can see what are they doing wrong... The problem is that some people are in that "vicious cycle" where they can't learn, because they don't read/watch others, so they are repeating the same mistake over and over again...

But, you never know... maybe 1% will read this, and implement it in their engagement routine... And others? They will probably quit in any case, so no worries... :)

I see 2 sides of "Thank you./Nice post"

  1. To acknowledge the author that he has been read. In curious case oh Hive sometime "upvotes" are easier to find then viewership. That "Thank you, tell the Author, he got read and viewer is ok with content".
  2. Value of "Thank you" can be judged by checking the profile by commenter if he/she is serial "Thank you" guy.

Hehehehe... I like the name that you made "Thank you" guy... hehehe...

Yes, it's nice to see that someone thanks for the read content, but add something more... something special to you... that the author "knows" you the next time when he sees your comment...

🤣 The trick to meaningful comments, is to just write your own thoughts as is. Even if it may be a bit awkward or hard to understand, the recipient will be thankful for the fact that you took that time.

And practice makes perfect, so the person that just takes the first step, will have better comments every time.

I agree with you that just "thank you" or "have a nice day" isn't a great comment... but I have seen people who doesn't even reply to a comment on their posts... I think it should be both ways. For example, if you comment on my post, I should put equal effort replying to you

Oh, of course! Completely agree with you about that!

I have talked a lot of times about that topic, too... Replying to comments on YOUR posts is a MUST! Even if those are "thanks" comments... Who knows, maybe some of those commenters watch and read this post, and next time creates super-valuable comment :)

Thank you for your time! Enjoy your weekend!

I'm inclined to agree with @saachi comments. Also, many people may not be able to articulate a certain level of response after just reading a post.

There's a lot of content to peruse and ”quick hitter” comments can be a practical mechanism or else you'd be here all day. 😂

Good convo on the subject 👍🏾

I do understand that there are people which aren't native English speaker, as I'm one of those... :) And I do understand that some of them can't express themselves better, but... The reality is that most of the comments which I have mentioned aren't from that category... As some of those people I know... lol...

hahahaha... Oh, yes... You are 100% right on this! :D

Thanks for the comment :)
