Good Sense Of Humor or Good Manners? - Week #197

I think having a good sense of humor and good manners go hand in hand because there's no way you can have a good sense of humor and be rude and disrespectful, but since we are to choose between the two, I would go for having good manners.

Having a good manner has a way of fostering positive interactions with people. In this part of the world where I am from, having good manners is part of the cultural norms and traditions, and this also plays a significant role in social interactions as a way of showing respect and courtesy, which is highly valued. Some virtues, like being polite, humble, and considerate, are very essential.

In my own culture, you must learn how to say thank you, sorry, and please. You don't dare call an elderly person by their name; you don't stand while greeting an elder; and you don't talk back at an elder, no matter what. If you don't portray any of this, you are seen as mannerless and disrespectful.

Apart from the cultural aspect, having good manners will help you have good relationships within families, communities, and even your workplace. Also, if you work in professional settings, you will agree with me that having good manners is a must because it enhances your reputation and credibility, which can lead to great success and more opportunities in that organization.

Ultimately, having good manners helps contribute to a harmonious and respectful society.
