PhotoEdits @oscarps - Low key / Clave baja
When I start working on this type of artistic editing process, the search for a very specific image to proceed with becomes the main objective. To obtain this image I went to the new part of this beautiful city of Cáceres. The town presents different landscape aspects within its urban area and we can find everything from medieval towers and walls, old stone streets and majestic buildings to palaces, many of which have now been converted into museums.
The newer part of the city does not escape its architecture from its whole within the historic city of Cáceres. The buildings are often inspired in their forms by these old castle towers with their battlements and in a modern version they modify and merge both parts of the monumental city. The Prince's Park nestled in the heart of it is an oasis and lung in the most border area between both styles of city. With this short description I propose to do an artistic editing work with one of the photographic captures made that day.
After having selected the image with which I am going to work, I go to the low key process to accentuate the gray and black colors and leave the light ones less intense, we must keep in mind the luminosity and brightness of the image. I proceed a bit lowering the brightness and play to discover those darker shadows. Next I go to the control points and select some in the image to only proceed in these precise marking places.
Después de tener seleccionada la imagen con la que voy a trabajar paso al proceso de clave baja para acentuar los colores grises y negros y dejar los claros menos intensos, hay que tener presente la luminosidad y brillos de la imagen. Procedo un poco bajándole el brillo y juego a descubrir esas sombras más oscuras. Seguidamente me voy a los puntos de control y selecciono algunos en la imagen para solo proceder en estos precisos lugares de marcaje.
When I already have the low key process to my liking, I proceed to transfer the image to the central work window with Photoshop CC where I begin to operate with it. I apply the process called "Dodge & Burn" which is actually about darkening and lightening the areas that interest me with a brush, pronouncing the shadows, turning off some excess light and giving light where it falls. Being with the layer without fusing, the effect of applying the Dodge produces some tones that I am looking for, sepias and oxides.
Cuando ya tengo el proceso de clave baja a mi gusto procedo a pasar la imagen a la ventana central de trabajo con Photoshop CC donde empiezo a operar con ella. Aplico el proceso denominado “Dodge & Burn” que en realidad se trata de oscurecer y aclarar con pincel las zonas que me interesan, pronunciando las sombras, apagando algunos excesos de luminosidad y dando luz donde esta incide. Al estar con la capa sin fusionar el efecto de aplicar el Dodge produce unos tonos que busco, los sepias y óxidos.
Once the previous process has been carried out, I go on to edit some specific parameters of the image, such as the warmth of the brightness or the grain, which, in this case, I completely eliminate. This is where I touch the shadows and highlights again to complete the process.
Una vez realizado en anterior proceso paso a editar algunos parámetros concretos de la imagen como son la calidez del brillo o el grano que, en este caso, elimino por completo. Es aquí donde de nuevo toco algo las sombras y las luces para completar el proceso.
To finish off I take the image to the Raw camera filter and modify what suits my way of understanding this work, once again lighting and shadows are my main objective.
Para rematar me llevo la imagen a filtro de camera Raw y modifico lo que me conviene a mi modo de entender este trabajo, de nuevo la iluminación y las sombras son mi principal objetivo.

Cuando empiezo a trabajar en este tipo de procesos de edición artística la búsqueda de una imagen, muy concreta para proceder con ella, se convierte en el principal objetivo. Para obtener esta imagen fui a la parte nueva de esta hermosa ciudad de Cáceres. La villa presenta diferentes aspectos paisajísticos dentro de su casco urbano y podemos encontrarnos desde torres y murallas medievales, calles de piedra antigua y edificios majestuosos de palacios muchos convertidos hoy en museos.
La parte más nueva de la ciudad no escapa en su arquitectura a su conjunto dentro de la ciudad histórica de Cáceres. Los edificios muchas veces se inspiran en sus formas a estas antiguas torres de castillo con sus almenas y en una versión moderna modifican y fusionan ambas partes de la ciudad monumental. El parque del príncipe enclavado en el corazón de la misma es un oasis y pulmón en la zona más fronteriza entre ambas estilos de ciudad. Con esta pequeña descripción me propongo realizar un trabajo artístico de edición con una de las capturas fotográficas realizadas ese día.
