IMPROVING ENGAGEMENT ON HIVE.

Posts like this often bring up the argument against or for quality content, which I do not want to discuss because it is pointless. When I mention quality in this post I am referring to readable and clickable posts that spark engagement. It has little or nothing to do with content structure or research (which are important but not in this context).

Most of the content creators (on Hive) create to earn, which is fine. However, most authors understand that they do not need engagement to earn on Hive. Their post only needs to be good enough for the curator. So in essence most creators are writing for curators and the implication is less engagement.

If a platform fails to engage its users, it is likely to go under sooner or later. This occurs because fewer individuals utilize the platform for shorter intervals, which hinders the formation of communities and friendships that could enhance the social experience for most users.

I spent a lot of active hours on X, primarily to earn (get my account monetised), however, the social experience or how i interact with the platform is a lot different than I do with most Hive social platforms. Instead of creating content, i will reply to other people’s content. I understand that engagement improves my visibility and by extension how much i can make from the platform. I believe if Hive social dapps adopt the strategy of prioritising content engagement high and above content quality we might see more active users.

I am also of the opinion that most hive social platforms should move towards short-form content. I have often gotten push-backs when I mention this idea, but the reality is that long-form content is not working on Hive and has not worked for a long time. That will not change now or in the future.

Microblogging dapps are a more easier means of getting new users into the hive ecosystem. You don't need any special skill to thread or thread, which reduces the barrier of entry and allows for more people (irrespective of their knowledge or skillset) to interact with the blockchain.

The more active users Hive has the higher the chance of generating revenue from their activities, reducing the reliance on the reward pool. Hive inflation can be channelled into other things that can help improve the ecosystem. Hive needs to be run like a business–efficiently by allocating resources to the right channel, and we can start now by rewarding those whose content generates the most engagement irrespective of the quality of the content.

I am moving away from the issue of quality because I believe it has not served this platform. It has given a few nameless people behind the scenes too much power and it is evident that their decisions are not necessarily improving the experience of daily users despite the fact they(curators) act in goodfaith.

BENEFITS OF A PRO-ENGAGEMENT PLATFORM

When creators on Hive begin to see that their earnings correlate with the engagement on their posts, they will not only create clickable and relatable content but also put in effort in sharing their content in the most effective ways. This increases viewing and improves the effort put, by the creator, into the creation process.

A pro-engagement platform will also influence how curators and whales curate. For curators looking for high ROI, curating engaging content will also certainly guarantee decent curation reward and by doing so push such content to the trending page.

CONCLUSION

People will only create content that stands a high chance of getting rewarded. Also, people will only engage with content on topics they like. So creators will only cater to the needs of their audience if their earnings depend on it. This is how I think we can improve engagement on Hive Social Dapps.

I totally agree with you, we can take as an example some cases of little use of content published on platforms powered by Hive that offer micro-blogging in a quick way such as #dbuzz or #threads , this not only happens due to lack of interest from smaller users but also the lack of motivation from larger users. How often do you see a big vote for short content?

upvotes on micro blogs don't need to be huge in my opinion. I think a better approach would be to find ways to reward those who create content that is transparent and fair, based on metrics such as view count and likes.

Now that I started blogging again I had a similar thought on how I can make my account grow in all fronts, about engagement its true, I have fun writing tv shows episodes recaps but probably thats not what people want to talk or read about, a post that raise a question or opinion creates engagement, like your post for example talks about a topic that by its nature raise peoples opinions either contrary or similar, and its not about the quality if its long, short, has video or images, its just that makes people think about the topic, great post btw, my first impression on Hive is that the community value long form content but eventually that will change when micro blogging dapps have a bigger impact, for example I get more engagement on my micro blogging than long form content, so eventually micro blogging could make my account grow faster and long form content would be a just me content.

Yeah it is difficult writing about the things you genuinely care about because there isn't much of an audience for me. I just try to create content around things that are relevant in this space.

I think ease of use is important for engagement, and microblogging fulfills this requirement easily. I think the ease of use strategy which Leofinance is utilizing with threads will bear much fruit, and the record MAUs each month seem to support these points. BUt we will see longterm if it is sustainable. I think w daily recharging reward pool suggests it is... What do you think?
