I have my SBI target and its more than I thought

Yesterday I was wondering how many SBI units I would need to maintain a 5HBD vote value, and I think I found the answer, at least directional-ally ( I think that's a word).

I'm assuming still that 1USD is always HBD in the world of Hive, so the answer is I need 25000 SBI units!

That's a lot more than I was expecting to need, but it makes sense.

The answer came over from the SBI discord where someone asked how much they would need for a daily 1USD vote, and that number was 5000 units.

So do I have a plan?

Not yet.

After the contest in November I will have a much better idea of how fast my vote balance updates and from there I can determine if the monthly contest route will be interesting to people. I have seen contests that are only giving out 5SBI with a lot more effort to join in than the way that my contests are structured, so that shouldn't be a problem

My goal may be to maintain a HP balance that will give me a 0.01SBD vote value and then power down everything else to get more units. I will make a lot more in author awards with those units that I will in curation.

HP question

I think I know the answer to this, but...

When I delegate HP to another account, say the HBI bonus units, that value stays the same but still counts for the accrual of HP with the APR% that the witnesses decide on, right?

This is another question that I used to know the answer to, and wish there was a hive wiki that would be maintained so I could look it up rather than asking the community every time.

HP is an abstraction. At the blockchain level, there are VESTS (sometimes referred to as MVESTS), and there is a reference rate. When you power up, the HIVE is converted to VESTS at the reference rate, and when you power down, the VESTS are converted back to HIVE at the reference rate. The APR% for accrual of HP is in the reference rate, so any HP in your account (even if delegated) will still receive it.

(Actually this creates slight incremental benefit for Hive SBI for long-term delegations, because the bonus units are calculated at 1 bonus unit for each 2 HP delegated at the start of delegation, and then removed at the end. We don't update the bonus units as the HP value of the delegation increases (although you could force it by redelegating each time the HP value goes up by 2 or more if you really wanted to capture that in bonus units)

It's not a lot, because bonus units from delegation are only about 5% of total units...

I think I have most of the variables that I need to figure out the strategy that I want to follow. If the APR of the HP + the benefit of owning those SBI units is greater that the interest on SBD, I think that its a no brainer to delegate.

This will especially be true if the maximum SBI vote per post increases, I don't think I can keep up with daily posting in the long term, especially if I want to keep it even remotely useful. Even as it is, a lot of my posting is navel gazing as I try to get my feet under me,

I'm going to spend some time this weekend thinking about it, and come up with v1 of the strategy and then I can actually start figuring out the type of content I want to be producing.

Keep in mind that 25000 bonus units is 50k HP, not 25k. This is why bonus units are such a small portion of the total. It's much better APR to subscribe directly and support others.

I agree, but there is a limit to how often I can post to extract that value, and there is no withdrawal, I'm locked it.

My thought at the moment is to get my SBI subscription to a point where I can get a decent monthly payout, and then use that to fund the savings. If adding to SBI is greater than what I get from curation (even if it is less than SBD savings) I will likely go that route because when I look at the witnesses right now it looks like some of them want to lower the savings APR a lot, or if HIVE starts mooning, I want to have some liquid hive to make moves, even if that liquid hive is 1/13th of my HP that I can use after I remove delegation (plus the x days).

I'm a long ways from having the number of units I want, so a lot of this is still just contemplation.

If you do cap out to where you're getting max vote on every post without drawing down your pending balance, please reach out to me. We do a limited amount of direct leases from Hive SBI whales that want to delegate more but are consistently hitting max deliverable vote. They get liquid payments weekly, based on an estimation of 'market rate' from dlease.
