Education And Aspirations

Learning is a continuing process, and as long as we do not give up on our aspirations,we will achieve them someday. Our passion is capable of leading us to greatness, and this is why there is a need for personal discovery—knowing what you’re passionate about, hence pursuing it.

As much as education does not guarantee success in life, it's a great path to becoming successful or offers one an opportunity to become successful. We not only acquire knowledge through education, but it also influences our behavior, our thoughts, our relationships with people, and much more. I think the best legacy I should leave for my children is getting them educated, as it will help them to be great in life.

Early this month, I had a long discussion with my partner concerning my career and what I aspire to in the future. Currently, I am a HND holder in dental technology. That's my level of education currently, even though I obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, which qualifies me as an educationist, but I am not looking into that aspect now; I did the study for a purpose. So this field of dentistry has four branches, which are prosthodontic, conservation, orthodontic, and maxillofacial technology. Just like medicine and surgery, we study the whole branch but not really in detail; however, one can decide to choose one specialty and study further on it. Right when I was still an undergraduate, I nursed the idea of specializing in maxillofacial technology, and that means studying further to obtain the certificate and perhaps standing a chance of getting a better job offer within my profession. One of the limitations of this course here in Nigeria is that the job opportunities are low compared to other medical departments. On several occasions, I have attended interviews for job offers, but the number of people needed is usually small, so those on the seat already have slots to fit in their people, and they literally take advantage of it, making it difficult for those who know no one in the establishment to secure a job.

From my research so far and from the information some of my colleagues who have traveled abroad gave me, the profession is much needed abroad with a decent salary but will require further study before one can fit in with their standard. One of my closest classmates back then in school found her way abroad last year, and through our conversation, the practices of my profession are great over there, and if I have the opportunity to further it, it will be on maxillofacial technology. It's a course within my chosen career that I find interesting, especially for practices, unlike the three other branches of dental technology.

I aspire to see myself dig deeper into this career, and I feel it would make a difference in my life by studying further and practicing, especially abroad. I do not know how long it will take me to achieve this, but what matters is that I have discovered my interest and will pursue it gradually until I achieve my goal.

This is my entry to the third edition of this week's #hivelearners engagement contest on the topic of Higher Education.

I just pray God will help us in our dear country Nigeria, because it's just so hard for a average citizen to secure a good and high paying job, the good jobs are kept aside for the people that knows the people in power, hmm it's well.

A dental technologist, that's huge and it's sad jobs like this aren't really appreciated here. Anything related to medicine pays a lot abroad and I believe that you will achieve your dreams regarding this profession one day.

Good luck with that mama, happy weekend.

I feel like studying abroad is far the best because you also get exposed to opportunities there even while studying therefore, you graduate from school and still have the opportunity to make your life better. Unlike what we see here.
I pray you achieve your heart desires ♥️nkemoly

I really don't know much about the dentist profession, probably because I've never had a need to visit you guys, even though I feel something in my teeth.

Though it's a noble profession and I believe going outside the country will get your the right appreciation of your profession.

I think most of the developing countries are facing the same issues. And it's the corruption and people are not getting jobs based on their qualifications. Going abroad bring better opportunity but everyone is not so lucky to make it possible as there need financial backup.
