Back-to-School Shopping Experience with My Kids

It's been a pretty lengthy vacation, and I must say that this is one of my best holiday experiences with my kids. During the holiday, which started on July 13, 2023, and which ended today as school resumes tomorrow, my kids and I explored varieties of lessons ranging from making their beds themselves, watering and weeding my little garden on my balcony, arranging their clothes properly in wardrobes, helping out in kitchen duties, little academic activities, which were fun too, seeing movies and some song and dance competitions mostly on weekends, going out to see friends and sometimes in an ice cream stand for some to cool off, etc. It was a holiday filled with nice activities, and we bonded even more. The lengthy holiday even seems shorter in our eyes because we were fully engaged all through. I believe they rested well and will have lots of stories to tell you about their classmates at school.

So this afternoon, we stepped out to get some back-to-school items they needed for resumption tomorrow. It was just some materials to pick up, as their school provides the textbooks to be used. It's usually included in school fees. So the items I got for them were mostly writing materials and some exercise books 📚,and then a lunch box for my second son.

The cost of academic materials has gone so high due to the current inflation in our country. It's actually on every single material one can think of, so I was not totally surprised when I received the bill for the items I picked for the kids. Even the school fees this session attracted a 50% increase due to the situation in our country since the fuel subsidy removal issues. Education is one thing that is very vital in the life of every child, and so I am trying my best to place priority on it despite the cost at the moment while limiting other things that are not a need but a want in order to balance the effect of the inflation in my finances.

As we were going back home, we stopped by the supermarket to pick up some drinks, snacks, and other beverages they would need for the resumption. Trust me, they love the shopping exercise in the mall and exploring places, as I didn't allow them to climb upstairs where I got the academic materials. So here in the mall, they had a tour..lolz

It was nice stepping out with the kids, and the experience was nice. I also had the opportunity to explain to them the importance of money and why they should work hard in their academics for a better future.
