The Orca & Bitcoin challenge after month two. 5k HP powered up this month.

avatar

This is part of my ongoing monthly series for the next 18 months as I try to build my account. I started off the journey from the 1st June 2020 an my full goal is to own 1 Bitcoin and 50K Hive.

https://peakd.com/hive-174578/@niallon11/new-plan-for-the-next-18-months-or-the-01-01-22-1-bitcoin-and-50k-hive

That is still my full goal over the course of the 18 months but I have decided that my first focus will be to get to Orca and then work on the bitcoin from those profits. I will still stack sats where possible but it won't be my first priority. Until then I will be powering up as much HIVE as possible to reach my first goal while the prices are still low.

With all the development and promotion happening on the chain now, i can see a future where we will regret not picking up more hive at 22c. That might only be a dream at this stage which will never materialize but I will plan accordingly either way.

So I started the challenge sitting on 20k hive at the start of June. Using my STEEM power downs I was able to finish the month on just short of 29k hive which is a nice jump.

Account Growth

June 2020

With those out of the way it was should have slowed down my growth, as from here on out it is a matter of earning my power every day. You can see the lovely steps from my four powerdowns and then powerups.

I'm not 100% sure how I managed to grow it so much over this month. I did find a few other bits of crypto to sell for hive. My monthly BAT rewards.

I remembered I had 30k Tron sitting in a cold wallet which I was not going holding on to. That was sold and accounts for the big jump in the middle. I had traded some into Eth and caught the jump so that was traded for hive as well. I haven't bought anything with fiat so these were all trades and profits that were put back into hive.

Apart from that I have been stepping up my posting game. Obviously with more stake comes more curation. I have cancelled pretty much all my dlease delegations and focused my whole stake on my #500wordsaday community which has grown nicely during the month.

60 Active users.
238 Interactions

For a community about a month old and only backed by my own stake I am very happy with this. Big shout out to @nathanmars who has brought some new and active users to join the fun. Lots of engagement and a small vote for everybody who is posting there.

It has also gotten me posting daily again which was something that I wanted to do. Life is busy but I think that it is important to be active here and try to grow as much as possible while growing others with you. Fun communities that grow together is the key to user retention.

Account Activity

This is an area that I wanted to focus on a lot more as you can see that for June my rewards are fairly low averaging below $2 per day.

June 2020

But by posting daily and engaging with my community the rewards have steadily increased on a daily basis. Time and effort count and as part of running the community, I read and comment on every post where possible. I do miss out from time to time with work and life commitments but the intention is there. Combining that with a daily post adds up and I have even received a lot of new followers along the way.

I am delighted with this trend as it is a place that I was weak and have been working to improve it. Building up my daily rewards will be a big part of achieving my goals. It's important to turn up every day and be active as that is the best way to grow for you and other accounts in your community. Time and effort count for a lot.

Targets.

Hive Power.

Bitcoin.

While I am focusing on Orca first, I will still be adding slowly to my bitcoin challenge along the way. Mostly through my crypto.com account where I get 2% back on all purchases plus my spotify paid back to me. Overall this acocunt is worth almost $80 a month which I will use to top up my Bitcoin monthly and keep it ticking over. Once I hit Orca I will switch focus over to that side but one thing at a time.

This will be my long standing goal until the 1/01/2022 and while I have no fear of attaining my HIVE goals over that time. There is a lot of space to fill on the Bitcoin chart and it will depend on price activity over that period as well.

That's it after month 2.

Looking forward to a more active August and hopefully a lot more growth.

Thanks. I've been posting almost every day now and building more engagement on my posts. It's all from being more active.

If you power up and invest you can't go far wrong from being active!

I mean look at the drivel that some active users get upvoted for!

True. The only thing that offsets that for me is a lot of them have been here a long time and built up these positions.

I know that there are far better posts than mine as well and far better writers who would think that my posts are over rewarded and in some cases they are right. On the other side, I have been here three years and built up a profile by engaging and being part of the community.

So it's good to build and power up. In the long run it will help you out quite a lot.

It's a tough uphill battle, I am trying to build that BTC too using celsius and blockFI, Sunexchange and crypto.com to give me returns on my BTC so stacking sats slowly but surly

Hive first and bitcoin second but I'll keep stacking a few dollars at a time. I'll try to keep my eyes out for any more opportunities to add a few Sats every week. The more the better, especially if it can be done passively.
What is the Celsius one? That's new to me.

Celsius network is a mobile app like BlockFi they hold your crypto and pay you around 4% why I like it more than the others is because they pay you compound weekly

OK. I might have a look at it and see if they have any deals going. I like to spread my crypto around a small bit. Don't like to keep too much anywhere.

Good effort on the Hive account! You're catching me up pretty quickly! I'm leasing and post as often as I can to get to Orca (51,300 or something) by the end of the year, hoping that comes to fruition!

That's pretty cool about crypto.com, may look into that with the Spotify deal! Sounds pretty good!

Thanks. Ya it's been building up nice and fast lately. I'll race you to whale over the next few years. I'm fairly sure that you have me well beaten to orca.

I'll keep posting and stacking though. It's quite fun at the moment as I have a clear target and it's coming up fast.

Haha, it will take a long time! If I can get to Orca by year 3 then just another 27 years to get to whale at this rate haha! I found having a target made me want to get there in double quick time!

That's a nice growth! Congrats on almost doubling your Hive Power in the last 2 months!

I will try to get to that Orca rank next year :)

Your Journey to Orca pie-chart is almost exactly how my looks, but if you put data in reverse (required and owned)... 🤣

Thanks.

I had a bit of a head start on you. It's been a fun three years but has only really gotten going in the last one. It does take a long time to build your account but if you keep stacking hive it keeps getting faster.

You'll get there next year at the rate you're going. It's very achievable at the moment while the chain is quiet.

Well, it looks that we have similar growth... the only difference is that I'm here only a year and a half :)

So, compared with you, I'm on a good path :)

I hope that we are both at a good path, in general, with stacking Hive :)

You are doing much better I would guess. I didn't earn anything much in my first two years and it's only when you get past 5k that it starts speeding up properly. After that it just keeps going if you are active. I actually earned a lot of it form trading in @splinterlands and buying selling at good prices. I found it much faster to earn than by blogging as I wasn't posting often enough or getting the engagement for a long time.

I also like trading the cards in the market and building a deck while taking profits. It's a fun game.

Yes, I'm familiar with Splinterlands... We are in the same guild... hahahaaha... I'm playing it with my other account (@cryptofiloz) 🤣

It was so interesting to read your post. I also had similar goals and I recently reached my dream of 10,000 HP a month back. I also have similar goals for Bitcoin as well. But right now Bitcoin price is too high and pushing the income from alt coins to Bitcoin can be a bad idea so, I'm not going to focus on Bitcoin right now.

After seeing your post, I'm also interested to write about my journey and the dream I have. From next month onwards, I will be doing a power up on every 1st of the month. Orca can be a long journey but I'll keep trying. Cheers! !BEER

It was so refreshing to read your post. 😀

Congrats on reaching 10k HP. That is a significant achievement for anybody to get to and not an easy one. It takes either money or a lot of time to build up your stake.

I love making these posts and have been doing so ever since my first challenge to 300SP. THat took about 6 months and lots of effort to earn those first few coins. The numbers are a lot bigger now but the challenge is just as fun to do.

I love seeing other people doing these posts as well as it gives an insight into account growth and the mentality of people using the chain. I also add any extra source of revenue that I can find from time to time for others to use. Nothing new at the moment but I always keep an eye on new projects.

Now that you have the 10K it's time to look at orca. Maybe do it in steps up to xmas and another for the next six months to make it manageable but definitely push forward from there.

Yes, thank you so much for your nice words. I also enjoyed traveling this far. I understand that it is a slow process and also we need strong support from other orcas and whales to reach that spot.

Yes, I definitely have a plan to reach a good HP value before Xmas. Maybe I can write a post on that and set a goal for myself and work towards that. I'm not sure if I would be able to become an orca before the end of the year but I can definitely give it a try in the next year's time.

I remember the hard time I had during my early days here. I have also had difficult moments where the value of my posts would end up in cents for a 4 hours effort. I have lost motivation but still, I wanted to stick around.

I also have a feeling that my username with lots of numbers in it was also a blocker. Many friends have complained to me saying that my account handle is hard to remember. I'm not sure if that would have had an impact but there is still a thought in my mind to switch to a new username that would be easy for people to remember so that they can tag me easily. 😉

I also have a feeling that my username with lots of numbers in it was also a blocker.

I never thought about this but it does make sense. I know for tagging or searching people that there are some of the big accounts that I know off my head. Makes it easy to interact with them or find their posts.

Yes indeed. I have a small plan in my mind to switch to a better account name. But one sad thing about that is that I have to start over from scratch. My reputation would again start from 25 and I have to grab new followers but I feel it can be lot easier for people to remember me if I make my username a lot easier. ;)

It won't be an easy switch but it is probably a good time to switch if you are thinking of it. While things are quiet and we are in rebuilding mode with the community.

For now, its to reach 30k in 2020... 2021, will be turning into an Orca =) thanks for the appreciation.

Great to see it. My first challenges were a race to 100HP and then 300HP. That was three years ago so the numbers do add up over time. The trick is just to keep stacking and having fun.

You'll get there by 2021. I'll be looking for that Orca post. 💪
