Homemade Amla candy recipe ( gooseberry candy) || Good mood good food || 35
Hello foodies!
Welcome to my blog again . I am so glad that you are here. Today i would like to share the recipe of amla candy also known as gooseberry candy which we can get in the supermarkets. But at home we also made easily these candies without preservatives.
First time i made this candy at home and i get fabulous results.
As we all know gooseberry has lots of health benefits and it is good to consume it daily. We can consume it in many ways and candy is one of the tasty and great way to enjoy healthy food which made at home without any preservatives.
To make amla ( gooseberry) candy we need amla and sugar , we have to steem or boil the fresh amla than marinating in sugar and drying in the sunlight. To make this candy is easy at home. I learn this recipe from my in-laws. We together make these candies.
There are 3-4 ways to make this candy , i tried 2 ways which i am going to share with you all.
Ingredients ✅
Fresh Amla / gooseberry 1 kg
Powered Sugar / jaggery - 600 gram or 3 cups
Lemon 2 tbsp
Process ✅
Step 1 : Steeming / cooking
First take the fresh amla and wash / clean well with water.
After that you can cook it in 2 ways:
First is to transfer in the pressure cooker and cook till the one whistle.
Second is you can steam it. I tried both way and i found steaming is best one.
Here is both results:
This is from boiling...you can see amla is over coooked.
With steaming amla cooks proper. You can see both results in above pictures.
Step 2 : separating slices
After first step you have to separate all the segments of amla and remove the seeds . After cook, cool down and it separate all slices like this.
Step 3 : Marinating in sugar
Now take a big vessel and add amla slices and powdered sugar in it. You have to keep 1/2 cup sugar aside ( which we use at the end). You can add powered sugar or jaggery powder or string candy powder ( dhage wali mishri ka powder). For health purpose jaggery powder and string candy is better and for good taste sugar is good. This time i add string candy powder.
Keep in the large container , best to keep in the big glass container and cover it with lid. Keep it for 2-3 days, you see that sugar starts melting. Mix amla in between.
Step 4 : Drying in the sunlight
After 2 -3 days you see that there are lots of water in the candies.
You have to remove all the water with the help of sieve , like this :
This is not a normal water, this is also healthy so you can use it to make some refreshments. make syrup with it which contains amla flavour and nutritions.
Now for dry amla spread welll in a big plate.
Cover it with cotton cloth , and dried it for 2-3 days.
Once you notice candy is dried coated it with remaining 1/2 cup sugar and also add lemon juice. Lemoj juice is totally optional.
Amla candy is ready to enjoy, store it in air-tight container for long time. Enjoy daily this tasty and healthy candy 🍬.

These currants are great, I haven't seen them here. The ones I grow in my backyard are smaller. The way you have processed them to turn them into candies is great, this is a very good recipe to make with other fruits of similar texture. Greetings @mysteriousroad
