Shopping at MD Supermarket in Cavallino, Italy
Hello Market Friday Community,
This week I share a recent shopping trip to the MD supermarket in Cavallino in Italy. When I go on holiday, I like to check the supermarkets and what products they have compared to back home.
We did originally plan to go to Lidl and did visit the Lidl in Jesolo, but it was very disappointing and has gone downhill since the last time we were there. Luckily, we moved on to MD and there they had a much better choice of products.
MD is not a huge supermarket, but it is big enough and has a good range of products. The prices were also pretty reasonable too I thought.
When you first enter, you see the fruit and veg section.
We grabbed plenty of fruits to take with us.
The kids are eating melon every day and there were plenty to choose from here.
Next they have some cheese and hams. I didn't look to closely at this section.
Close by they also had plenty of fruit juices to choose from. They had this really nice Pineapple one that we bought and I could recommend.
I also bought some italian beer to take home with us. I didn't drink it yet and may do a Beer Saturday post about it.
There was another section full of cheeses.
The dairy section was quite big and led to the bakery section at the back of the supermarket.
Heading down a new isle I saw they had plenty of coffee options. This was not the only coffee section either.
They also had plenty of sweet options for those with a sweet tooth. Here they had these typical sweet soft cakes that are quite popular.
Of course, being in Italy you want to check out the olive oils and maybe grab a bottle to take home with you.
This one looked ok and we took it.
After, I checked out the pasta section to see how it compares to back home. They had a lot of spaghetti and pasta choices here, even in this discount store.
Prices looked pretty cheap here too.
I saw they also had lots of pre-made pasta sauces here too. If you wanted to make a quick meal with a jar of sauce and some spaghetti, it would set you back less than €1,50.
Here they had an offer for one at 0,79€, but I dont know how it tastes.
Of course, you would need something to drink with that meal, here they had quite a few beers available, but I don't drink too much beer these days.
They had a pretty good wine sections with lots of wines to choose from.
My cellar is already still stocked from the last time we bought wine from here and brought it home.
It was also only a couple of euro for a bottle of Hugo if you like some cocktail. We bought some Spritz to enjoy.
Finally we were done and headed for the checkout and were done for this shopping trip. Happy Market Friday!

This store has got everything wow.
It was pretty amazing, I do recommend it.
Cheese and ham is totally my section! I'd set up a tent and just live there. For real. This looks like a pretty cool market. It's amazing how different a store from the same chain can be from one town to another. We have a chain called Kroger and the ones near us are nasty. The one's down near my inlaws are immaculate. It's crazy.
hehe you would love Italy with their cheese and hams. This supermarket had plenty of locals shopping there so it was a good sign. It does make you wonder how some chains can be so badly run, while others look really great. I guess it comes down to the people.
Yeah, I think that is a big part of it. Some of the managers and employees take pride in their store and the others are there just to get a paycheck. It's sad. I bet the cured meat selection there is amazing.
I think you need to go to Italy and check out the food for yourself! I think you might like eating out for sure.
It's on our bucket list. I hope we can get there sooner rather than later. My wife and I are both big fans of pasta.

They had a pretty good fruit section here. Generally the fruit seems to taste better in Italy!

Seeing that it's Italy, I'm not surprised seeing the types of wine and the variety in the wine section. I'm a big fan of pasta as well. It's a big shopping mall, seeing all the sections
Yeah they have lots of typical Italian food here and especially wine! :D
I love the view of this supermarket, especially the alcohol part. Looks like they will have all brand of liquor.

I had a sudden shopping late in the evening yesterday, as well. My wife sent me to the store to buy a large package of flour (we started an apple pie, but discovered there was no flour at home!). I also got a bottle of dry red wine, and a pack of Kalamata olives for me - as a bonus. !DHEDGE and !PIZZA

Woah. You stated that it isn't a huge one but it is I think really big. And having reasonable prices in such big store is really a blessing man.
Here in Pakistan, where there is a superstore like this inflation is common.
It is reasonable sized and pretty good prices. I think inflation is attacking us from everywhere.
That's a really good thing.
And sad thing is we can't do anything against this inflation.

They all seem the same to me but i am not a fan to be honest.

I am familiar with this supermarket chain because there are 4 of them in my town and 3-4 times a month I go right to the MD for groceries to fill the refrigerator :)

Olive oil in my country is quite expensive. what about there? @mypathtofire
It was €5,90 for 750ml here which costs.more than here in Germany. But maybe it's better quality and Italian.

A typical Italian supermarket, pasta, spaghetti, pesto, wine, beer, cheese, olive oil, you didn't mention olives. If I am there I should purchase, olives, olive oil, and different kinds of cheese and of course plenty of fruits. Nice photos looks like you enjoyed your market Friday. :)
Thanks, it has all the typical Italian things you love and there were plenty of olives. We love Olives, especially in dripped in an garlic olive oil!! We love Italy and cant wait to go back! lol
