Market Friday - Late Night Shopping in Kaufland

MFLNS.jpg

Hello Market Friday Community,

I am back again this week with some late night shopping in Kaufland. I say late night but that is subjective as the supermarket closes at 10pm here, so it was a quick dash in shortly before closing time and not a 2 or 3am visit that I may have done in the past in other places.

I was having a snack attack and was looking for something sweet to eat, so thought a quick shop to Kaufland could be a good idea. While I was there, I thought I could take a few snaps as that could be useful for a Market Friday post.

Kaufland is probably one of the better supermarkets in Germany and it also has usually the largest markets with more products than many others. I find that they are usually also quite well ran, clean and tidy.

They also often have elevators taking you up into the shopping area. This is great fun to negotiate with a trolley full of stuff and the kids have fun too.

photo1691096894 (2).jpeg

As it was around 9.45pm, there were not too many people around. Here was the place to return glass and plastic bottles.

photo1691096894 (4).jpeg

As you enter the shopping area, there is the fruit and veg section. I was not picking up any veg today for my sweet tooth.

photo1691096894 (3).jpeg

Next to it is the bakery section. Mostly it is quite reasonably priced but I don't like to eat their bakery products because they taste nasty imo compared to fresh from the bakery. Maybe if you manage to get something directly freshly baked, it might be ok, but generally I avoid the bakery in Kaufland and in fact all of the in-supermarket bakeries as they are cheap and nasty tasting.

photo1691096894 (6).jpeg

As I was browing I saw there was a range of mustard products.

photo1691096894 (7).jpeg

Quite popular here is the wine section. There were a few isles dedicated to wine.

photo1691096894 (8).jpeg

The prices of wine are pretty cheap in Germany, although not so cheap as in Spain or Italy I think. If you like the branded wine, then you would buy it here in Kaufland.

photo1691096894 (9).jpeg

Along with wine, sparkling wine is also popular. One popular brand is called Rotkäppchen or Red Riding Hood.

photo1691096894 (10).jpeg

Here there are lots of chocolates to choose from if you have a sweet tooth.

photo1691096894 (11).jpeg

A popular brand here is Milka. It costs €1,35 for a 100g bar of chocolate, but it is often on offer for half of this price every other week.

photo1691096894 (12).jpeg

There is some chocolate available for all tastes and budgets.

photo1691096894 (13).jpeg

As I was looking for a snack, I came across a Spargel or Asparagus soup that you can buy in a packet costing 99 cents.

photo1691096894 (14).jpeg

They also do cups with noodles in them for €1,19. These I would have eaten in my younger days for a quick snack.

photo1691096893 (1).jpeg

There were many soups and spices available to choose from.

photo1691096894 (15).jpeg

In the fresh section you can view all the way down to the checkouts.

photo1691096893 (2).jpeg

You can also buy different types of meat in the meat section.

photo1691096893 (4).jpeg

I mentioned last week that you wouldn't buy beer in Lidl here and this is because the range of beers are much better at Kaufland and other supermarkets. Here you can buy a case of beer for example Paulaner for €12,79.

photo1691096893 (9).jpeg

This one is an alcohol free Weiß beer.

photo1691096893.jpeg

Also they had on offer a case of Bitburger pilsner beer for €9,99 the case. I think it is a reasonable average good quality german beer and tastes ok.

photo1691096893 (8).jpeg

There is a lot of beer to choose from. Currently at home I have a case of Warsteiner that you can see on the left.

photo1691096893 (10).jpeg

Before leaving at the checkouts, I saw there was lots of ice-cream available to buy.

photo1691096893 (7).jpeg

As I was leaving, I saw the bakery was already closed.

photo1691096893 (6).jpeg

I made a final run for it down the elevator to my car. Thanks for coming with me on this late night shopping trip.

Market is quite clean and tidy. And yes you are true that there is variety of everything in comparison to any other market. Things are properly arranged.

They arrange everything in each single rank in a decent manner, in this way it's easy to find out things which we want.

Thanks. It is a really well ran supermarket. I am happy they built this one as the old one was very bad.

Yeah, I definitely enjoyed this late night shopping trip. It feels like guy can find pretty much everything in here. There's this really nice mall I love to go to. But for some reason, it's prohibited for taking pictures. Quite annoying if you ask me.

Yeah, going late is good as there are less people around so it's a bonus. That's a shame about your local Mall. That is similar to what they said about David in Florence, a photo could damage him or something 😅

shopping at the supermarket is always fun, because apart from being a neat and complete place, the price of goods is also more stable

You can't beat it for convenience and the prices are not too bad either.

Wild that the supermarkets are open so late. Think that may perhaps be too dangerous here in South Africa. I do have a sweet tooth, lol. I agree with the bakery.. unless the trays are full.. i.e. when they've just loaded them up. That being said, I haven't been impressed in a long time (except for a custard slice not too long ago which was dope!). Thanks buddy for sharing the adventure.

Sorry to hear that they dont open so late there. I only know that there is a Spar in SA, not sure of other supermarkets.
We dont get the real custard slices here, but I remember them from a few years ago and they were quite nice!

I really liked the supermarket, a lot of variety, and comparing prices with the beer in my country, it seems to me that the one in your photo is much cheaper. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks it is a nice supermarket. Beer in Germany is pretty fairly priced I think and generally very good quality too. Not that I drink very much tbh. 🙂

Very nice and welcoming place with a wide array of products on display. I always make a stop at the ice cream section any time I visit a supermarket. I didn't think the tour will end this soon, there's so much to look at :)

I don't know that Kaufland is a grocery chain. I always thought is something like DM... anyway, we don't have this chain here... Milka is the same price as here, but the cup noodles you show are expensier, about 1.76€ in local Lidl ...

It looks like Kaufland didn't expand so far yet, but they usually are more pricey than Lidl and Aldi, but here at least a much better choice of products.

Thats exactly what I'd do - get a sweet attack, and have to go straight to the super market for chocolate/cakes !
That is a nice beer range !
