Your story brought tears to my eyes, I was lucky that I knew my Grandmother on my Dad's side and my Grandfather on my mother's side but they both passed when I was still a child so I am lucky that I at least knew them. The other two passed before I was born.
I had an aunt who was born in Louisiana, wouldn't it be something if we were related, lol? When she married my dad's brother they lived in Lake Charles, but I do not know if that was the area where she was born. She was a true Cajun. I loved her so much.

As far as I know, my families lived in Caddo and DeSoto Parishes. Their origins are sketchy, with each family members citing different locations. That indicates they truly didn't know the full extent of their history.

I forgot to comment on your hand, it sounds like mine but in different locations, the cartridge might be gone like mine. It is very painful with certain movements. If I hold mine still it does not hurt but if I try to use clippers or take a lid from a jar, the pain is unbearable. you might want to see a hand doctor or get an x-ray of it. I hope you can find relief, I know how much it must hurt.
I got a diagnosis years ago when my arthritis first flared up in different parts of my body. X-rays confirmed it. Unfortunately, the hands are included. And yes, at times, it's unbearable to move even in rotation.

The doctor I saw said he can fix it, have you seen a hand surgeon? Being my right hand and being right handed, I have to do something about it.
Yes, I've seen a hand surgeon. It's arthritis and surgery can't fix that.
