Freewrithouse A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

This is my post for #freehousewrite #pic1000 hosted by @freewritehouse

What I see
I see a bridge with many support cables.

There are not many cars for it being 4 lanes.

Do they have lights on one side but not the other???

It looks like stoplights at the end.

I also see a concrete wall and the railing that are on each side of a lane for people to walk across.

I see that someone took the pic from inside their car because I can see the sun visor.

What I feel
I feel like I have been across a bridge just like this one.

My story

image.png

Cissy and Jimbo could not wait for the bridge to be built, they watched as every piling was set. Not long after it was completed the brother and sister walked to the middle. They had waited on the tide to start flooding so they would not be swept out to sea on the ebb tide.

Jimbo said he would jump first and Cissy promised she would be right behind him. Jimbo jumped and Cissy could hear him yelling at her to jump. Cissy was frozen, Jimbo fell for a long time, she thought.

Jimbo was now onshore and yelling if Cissy did not jump, he was going to throw her off of it. These words made Cissy run, but Jimbo was coming up the side where the bridge met the road.

All Cissy could think was, he is going to throw me off and I will be over land. She knew she could not get around him so she turned and ran back to the middle.

She waited until he was almost to her and she jumped. When she hit the water she was in the sitting position which stung the back of her legs where it was hard to swim to shore. Her legs were red as if she had a sunburn. She never agreed to jump again.

The photo led me to this true story because I can not see a bridge without thinking of that day, the photo in the story is mine and the bridge is the one I talk about.

I felt her fear, I've been there myself and hardly survived. I am glad she did and understand why she will never jump again.

The photo you showed... It surprises me how many bridges collapse. The Romans had a better way of building.

Those "stoplights" you mentioned are no lights but road signs. They tell the driver the maximum speed allowed in the lane he is driving.

Thanks for joining pic1000. 👌

Yes, bridges collapsing surprise me, too. They seem to be well-built. They built the one in the photo in 1967 and it is still standing. I totally agree, the Romans knew how to build things better than we do today. Also, you are welcome, I like doing a pic is worth a 1000 words but do not have the time to do it as much as I would like to do it.

Oh goodness, brothers can get us into the worst pickles sometimes! I wouldn't have wanted to jump off that bridge, either.

In my mind, he was going to throw me off over land if I did not get back to the middle and jump. It is like 60 feet high or more.
