This is my post for #freewriters Monday prompt dragon egg hosted by @daily.prompt

This is my dragon fruit plant from 2015.

image.png
In this picture, it was about 6 or 7 years old and the frame that my husband built for it to grow on was leaning and about to fall over.
I have always heard that you needed both kinds when growing them, if you planted two reds or just 2 white, you will not get fruit, you need both kinds for them to make a fruit.

I once had an English teacher who said there is an exception to every rule. Dragon fruit is no different. I was at my cousin's house and someone gave him self-pollinating dragon fruit.

image.png
I built five of these stands for the dragon fruit and put long pieces of bamboo in a ladder shape on top. There are two red, 2 self-pollinating, and one white. I did not care much for the white ones.

image.png
But the red ones made a mighty fine smoothie.

image.png
If there were dragons and they laid eggs, I would say this is what a dragon egg would look like.

image.png

image.png

I have my first blooms so in about a month I should have dragon eggs to eat.

image.png

I finished pressure washing the front of the trailer today.

Every time I look at the higher places that I could not get to, it bothers me. I still have the falling problem and when I look up I get the funny feeling that I get right before I fall, so the top did not get done. But it looks better than it did.

photos are mine

Dragonfruit - red, with scales - was this the inspiration for the red dragon in Shrek? #Love it!
And I love your natural talent for sharing stories straight from real life - your life - your busy, productive, inspiring life!

The red dragon does resemble a dragon fruit. I think I write about what happens in my day because I do not have the mind of a writer to make up stories. Sometimes the prompt is hard to fit into my day and sometimes it works out well.

I've never seen dragon fruit before. What an interesting plant, and the fruit also is fascinating. Yes, a dragon's egg should look like that!

They are very expensive in the store and they are not as sweet. The longer you leave it on the plant the sweeter it gets, they pick them before they get ripe to sell in the stores. That was the first thing I thought of when I saw the prompt, they would be a perfect dragon egg.

Falling, but no dizziness (vertigo) - just a "funny feeling" after you look up?

I still have the falling problem and when I look up I get the funny feeling that I get right before I fall

I wonder if you've been diagnosed with Ménière's (no real cure for that) or BPPV (a vestibular therapist in a few sessions can fix it with Eppley Maneuver or Libertory-Semond, unless you're like me, and nothing works) - or is it "vestibular migraine" (which may or may not include head pain) or just an inner ear thing or just a balance issue.....? (No need to reply!).....

Not gonna block-quote this many paragraphs, so let's just pretend I did:

Dizziness and vertigo are symptoms of a vestibular balance disorder. Balance disorders can strike at any age, but are most common as you get older.

Your ear is a complex system of bone and cartilage. Within it is a network of canals. These are called semicircular canals. The canals are filled with fluid. The position of the fluid changes with movement. A sensor in the ear then sends the information to your brain to contribute to your sense of balance. These and other delicate pieces make up the vestibular system.

Common causes of vestibular balance disorders include:

Medicines
Infections
Inner ear problems, such as poor circulation in the ear
Calcium debris in your semicircular canals
Problems rooted in your brain, such as traumatic brain injury

Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV)

is a problem in the inner ear. It is the most common cause of vertigo, which is a false sensation of spinning or movement.

.... The Epley maneuver and other bedside physical therapy maneuvers and exercise programs can help reposition the crystals from the semicircular canals. Recurrences can occur, and repeat repositioning treatments are often necessary.

After Epley maneuver treatment, the patient may begin walking with caution. He or she should avoid putting the head back, or bending far forward (for example, to tie shoes) for the remainder of the day. Sleeping on the side of the affected ear should be avoided for several days.

If the crystals are in a location other than the posterior semicircular canal, slightly different maneuvers may be used, but they are based on the same principle of moving the stones out of the offending semicircular canal. BPPV of the anterior canal is exceedingly rare, since debris in this canal (located at the top of the inner ear) easily falls out on its own.

NOTE:
Trying the Epley maneuvre at home (without supervision) can be disastrous. In July 2020, it led to an ER visit for me and $10,000 in ENTs, otologists, and therapists (we have a very high deductible and insurance doesn't cover everything) https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/treatment-tests-and-therapies/home-epley-maneuver

Thank you for the information but it is not vertigo or anything like that, I wish it was and really appreciate you looking this up and sending it to me. If I get my head in a certain position, like sitting and looking down at my phone, looking up or down to the right will give me a weird numbing feeling on the left side of my face then it travels down my left arm and to my legs. I know I am going to fall but can not stop it. Once I am on the floor I jerk like I am having a seizure. I have never had it happen from looking down to the left.

One time I thought I was safe because I was sitting on the toilet trying to get a new roll of TP started and I got that feeling but thought I would not fall because I was sitting, I fell between the toilet and the tub and got a blister on my upper arm the size of a baseball from what I guess was jerking and rubbing against the tub. I don't know how long I was there, I must have blacked out. Since then I move my head when I first feel it coming on and have not fallen since I started doing this.

When this started I went to the Dr, several Doctors, and LOTS of tests, they do not know what is going on, and since I learned that I can control the falling, I quit going to them. They did say that I have a clogged artery but all they can do for it is put me on meds, so now I am on blood thinner and cholesterol meds, it is an artery that they don't put a stint in.

A clogged artery ... oh no... meds, but no stent?
(What a mystery - you elude diagnosis! How frustrating that is. It took me 20 years of malpractice and miserable, expensive "treatments" before the gluten diagnosis, which improved my life more than any doctor did).
Arteries. You somehow escaped surgery? These things are routinely "fixed" with "Roto Router" - my mom's carotid is half blocked, and they want to ream it out. She had a spell of dizziness with weak arms and legs. At her age (85) one has to go the medical "profession" to see what's causing such symptoms (hers lasted two days, then went away.)

My father-in-law suffered a nicked trachea when his carotid was cleaned out. For an entire year he couldn't swallow and fed himself at home with an IV machine. Awful, awful. He ate very little, and very slowly, then died a couple years after that invasive surgery (and he didn't sue the surgeon who nicked his trachea).

Maybe my mom will stick with meds, not Roto Rooter surgeons. Monday, it will be two weeks without test results. Small towns can be terrible places for medical "care." My sister's cancer (and a blood clot as well) were misdiagnosed/overlooked/dismissed in this same town.

The world is filled with brilliant, hard working doctors who save lives and work miracles.
I just haven't met any of 'em myself.

May this continue to work: "I move my head when I first feel it coming on and have not fallen since I started doing this."

I've learned to turn my whole body instead of turning my head (to avoid triggering vertigo).

Little things....

When I hurt my back, I found different ways of doing things, now when lifting I use my shoulder muscles more than my lower back muscles. With whatever this is, I would fall every time I swept the floor, I sweep from left to right but found if I sweep right to left, I do not fall. I think left to right I am holding my head sideways looking down. It is weird but I have not fallen anymore when sweeping.

They told me if it was my carotid it would have to be 80% blocked then they would fix it, but it is a different artery. Other than the clogged artery they said it could be one of three things, Steals disease or syndrome, Bow Hunters, and I also have stenosis in my neck, I think they said stenosis is narrowing around the spinal cord.

What your Mother is experiencing sounds almost like what I am going through, I do not get dizzy, but my arm does get weak and my legs can not hold me up. I will keep her in my prayers.
