5 minute freewrite 2351 prompt they went extinct
This is my post for #freewriters 2351 prompt they went extinct hosted by @mariannewest.
This picture was in with the photos that my Mom gave me many years ago, I do not know if it is a relative. Mom was born in Massachusetts and the clothes look like something that would have been worn up there. I wish I had noticed it when she was still with us and asked her who it was. I do not know what year it was taken. My Dad was born here in Florida so I do not think it is someone from his side of the family.
Have you ever thought about all of the people you are related to from the past and all of the knowledge they had? What a shame that it is lost to time, you could say they went extinct, and you know nothing about them, sure you can look up some of them on an ancestor site but it will not tell you anything about how they lived their daily lives, what did they do each day or how were they feeling about what was going on around them.
This is why I like to write here on Hive, what I write will never go extinct, it will be here forever. My only regret is that I am no longer fishing, that was the reason for the name @myjob, I was writing about my days on the river so that one day a grandchild or great-great-great-grandchild would read about how I caught fish and the things I went through to catch them.
Maybe one day I will get to where I can fish again, this is my hope. So in the meantime, I will ramble on with what goes on in my days, like today, my husband sits down in the chair next to me and asks why I am depressed, I say I am not depressed, he says all you do is sit around and watch tv. I say what am I supposed to do??? It is hard to do anything one-handed and every time I try to do something I can't because it hurts my hand.
Yesterday I saw some of my ground cherries were almost ripe but I thought I would leave them one more day to get fully ripe, that was a mistake, I went out there this morning and they were gone. I found a piece of chicken wire to put around them but could not hammer the stakes in to hold the wire up, so I came back in the house and turned the tv on, this is where I will stay until I get my hand fixed. Depressed, maybe I am.
photo is mine
You are going through a lot right now ... injury, temporary loss of livelihood, memories of mother ... it's OK to watch TV for a little while and grieve ... and your fish stories are THE BEST, and will always be a joy to read.
Thank you so much, @deeanndmathews you always have a way of making me feel better. [[Hugs]]
Hugs back, my friend ... I'm here for you, even in this limited way!
It helps, you make me smile and feel better. :)
Hive gives the privilege that next generation would come here and read about how we feel and do things, in our daily life, there was no much platform like hive back then, if not, you would have read about the him in the photo, if he really go extinct.
Nice used of prompt story.
Thank you @faithetim, it would have been nice if our ancestors had something like Hive.
Hello @myjob. Wow, you truly blew me away with your words taken from my own mouth and thoughts throughout the years:
How deeply this hurts not to have known either my maternal or paternal grandparents. I often tell my children that I am grandparent-less. I ache for the love and knowledge that I know a grandparent can give, being one myself.
Having been born in Louisiana and parents moved from there when I was six months old, I never grew up with ancestors and extended family knowing them intimately. You are right. Looking on ancestor databases and on gravesite websites knowing only their birth and death information is not enough for me. How did they feel about their lives; what was it like to live through slavery; through the depression; what made live bearable for them; what were their favorite colors.
Scattered throughout the U.S., I'll never locate them all. I have no one to connect to that will bring them all together so that I can piece together their lives.
It hurts. It hurts not knowing your past.
I hope your hand gets better soon. My left hand suffers from arthritis. It hurts to pick up things pressing down or trying to clutch things with my thumb.
Take care. Thanks so much for your post. They have gone extinct.

Your story brought tears to my eyes, I was lucky that I knew my Grandmother on my Dad's side and my Grandfather on my mother's side but they both passed when I was still a child so I am lucky that I at least knew them. The other two passed before I was born.
I had an aunt who was born in Louisiana, wouldn't it be something if we were related, lol? When she married my dad's brother they lived in Lake Charles, but I do not know if that was the area where she was born. She was a true Cajun. I loved her so much.
As far as I know, my families lived in Caddo and DeSoto Parishes. Their origins are sketchy, with each family members citing different locations. That indicates they truly didn't know the full extent of their history.
Thanks so much for your engagement. I appreciate it. Take care.

I forgot to comment on your hand, it sounds like mine but in different locations, the cartridge might be gone like mine. It is very painful with certain movements. If I hold mine still it does not hurt but if I try to use clippers or take a lid from a jar, the pain is unbearable. you might want to see a hand doctor or get an x-ray of it. I hope you can find relief, I know how much it must hurt.
I got a diagnosis years ago when my arthritis first flared up in different parts of my body. X-rays confirmed it. Unfortunately, the hands are included. And yes, at times, it's unbearable to move even in rotation.
Take care.

The doctor I saw said he can fix it, have you seen a hand surgeon? Being my right hand and being right handed, I have to do something about it.
Yes, I've seen a hand surgeon. It's arthritis and surgery can't fix that.
I don't know what I would do with myself if I couldn't use one hand. I can't stand to watch TV, so I would be very bored! Hang in there, and I hope you can get some help for your hand real soon.
The only good thing about it is I can't do the dishes. lol
There are very few tv shows that I like, my husband says I have it on for the noise because with raising so many kids, I do not like a quiet house. Right now I am watching The Rise and Fall of the Maya Civilization. They are showing what their villages would have looked like and how they lived which I find interesting. It amazes me that some of their structures still exist.
That does sound interesting! I know there are some interesting documentaries on Netflix, probably on Amazon Prime, too
