This is my post for #freewriters 2344 prompt hyena arena hosted by @mariannewest

I saw the Orthopaedic Surgeon today for the pain in my hand. When we pulled into the parking lot and saw the size of it and the building, I told my husband, well this looks like it is going to be a hyena arena. I had looked at the prompt before going there but he had no idea why I said that but got a kick out of it. The building was so big that I could not get it all in the picture from where we were parked.

When I went inside and saw the waiting area, I was in shock, I had never seen one that big. I live in a double wide trailer and you could put at least 2 and a half of them inside the waiting area and it was almost full of people waiting to be seen.

I waited my turn in line to check in, once I got to the receptionist, she checked me in and gave me a pager, she said to take a seat, and when it was my turn the pager would light up and vibrate when it did this come back here and someone will take me to a room.

After waiting about a half hour the pager did as she said and I met a nice young lady that said to follow her. We walked and walked, I told her that she needed roller skates, and she said that would be fun then she said, I should get a pair of those shoes that kids used to wear with the wheels in them. The doctor came in and talked with me for 2 minutes and said someone would be in to take me to get x-rays of my hand. Now I am walking down another long hallway.

After getting the x-ray and walking back to the room the doctor came back in and started telling me he is a surgeon, that is what he loves to do, this is not what I want to hear. I will try to explain the x-ray of my hand, he says see this gap where my wrist is located, I say yes, he says the gap is the cartridge, that is supposed to be there, now see the white spots above it in the center and up to the left, I said yes, and he said that is where the cartridge should be, you have bone on bone in those places. This is why I have so much pain every time I move my hand.

He talked some more about how he loves to do surgery but he will give me a brace to wear and some meds to take, and he wants to see me again in 4 weeks. I am sure to discuss surgery on it. If I let him do the surgery, I am afraid I will be out for the entire trout season, but if I let him do it maybe I will be able to fish pompano this fall. I am going to need to think about this.

That's a big decision to make. Ultimately, less pain would be really nice. But the temporary inconvenience of recovery would be its own kind of "pain."

I see the doctor again in a month I need to find out the success rate in him doing this surgery. I know I need to do something or quit using my right hand. The thought of him cutting into the top of my hand turns my stomach but if it helps, it will be worth it. I need to ask him more questions.

If he can help your wrist in the long run, the missed season is a small price to pay. I have had family with shoulder and hip surgeries that were very problematic in the short run, but once everything healed up, they were far better off. I suspect the same for your wrist.

That is the same thing my husband said, I have been looking forward to trout season, and maybe I will get to at least try to see if I can handle it before it is time for surgery.
