This is my post for #freewriters 2338 prompt stop it hosted by @mariannewest

I had an appointment with my back doctor yesterday, he is a pain management Dr. and has also been treating the pain in my right hand. He has given me two injections in it but they have not helped. I was glad he did not want to give me another one because they are very painful, he stuck the needle between my knuckles and wrist, right on the top of my hand.

It hurts all of the time and worse when I am using it. He asked if I thought the meds that I am on for my back help the pain in my hand, I told him the meds not only do not stop it, they do not touch the pain I feel in it.

He now wants me to go to a hand surgeon, I do not want surgery but I can not keep going on with the pain I feel so I guess I have no choice but to see the hand doctor.

When I got home I called the referral he gave me and was surprised they could get me in to see him next week. They told me that I would need to pay 20% because the only insurance that I have is what Medicare covers, I will need to see what this is going to cost as to what I do.

My doctor also wrote a prescription for Diclofenac Sodium Gel, it is an arthritis pain reliever. I started putting it on yesterday, and it says to apply it four times a day, I did it twice yesterday and so far three times today, and I have still not felt any relief. Maybe I have to use it longer or maybe it does not work on me.

I'm sorry to hear about the pain you are having in your back and hands. Pain anywhere in your body is no fun. I have arthritis in my back, knees, and hands. I know what you're dealing with. I've had back and knee surgery. The back surgery has healed and no more pain. However, the pain persists in my knees and hand. Arthritis is the real culprit because no amount of surgery will cure this.

Are there any "no cost" or "low cost" Medicare Advantage Plans in your region? These plans can help cover the cost of supplemental expenses.

I hope you find relief soon. But especially find out what's causing your pain.

Take care.

I was on Medicaid but my youngest two children moved back in with me, they are both in their 40's, and with their income, I no longer qualify for it. I do not think there is anything he can do about it, as you said Arthritis is the real culprit because no amount of surgery will cure this. But I am willing to see what he says so I know it is arthritis and not something else. So far it is just my back and hand, this getting old is not going as well as I thought it was going to be.

Does your hand swell when you use it a lot? Across the top of mine will swell, and even the wrist knuckle.

Yes, my ankles, knees, shoulders, hips. My hands, ankles, and knees swell. When my hand swells, I can't wear my wedding ring. On my hands, it's my thumbs and the joints.

Hope all goes well with the doctors.
