The oldest recorded date of the day the sun went out was 3 May 1375 BC or 5 March 1223 BC, can you imagine not knowing anything about what was happening and seeing the sun fade away? I think a lot of people would have had panic attacks at seeing this, I know I would have. Some people believe an eclipse was predicted to occur by Thales on 28 May 585 BC but they are not sure how he knew this and some people believe he never predicted it, I guess we will never know the truth.
On August 21, 2017, all of the United States experienced at least a partial solar eclipse of the sun. I know you are not supposed to look at the sun during an eclipse so I took this selfie with the the moon passing over the sun.
The August 2017 eclipse was the first with a path of totality crossing the Pacific and Atlantic coasts of the U.S. since the solar eclipse of 1918. Also, its path of totality made landfall exclusively within the United States, making it the first such eclipse since the country's declaration of independence in 1776. February 26, 1979, was the last total solar eclipse in the US I thought this was an interesting fact so I copied it from a quick Google search. Our next total solar eclipse will be next month, April 8, 2024, I had better try to see this one because I think it will be my last, we will not have another one until Aug. 23, 2044, the month that I will have my 88th birthday, it is not out of the question for me to live this long, but with the way things are going, I do not think I will make it to 88 even though my goal is to see 100.
