5 minute freewrite 2283 prompt justify the lie

This is my post for #freewriters 2283 prompt justify the lie hosted by @mariannewst

I feel like a bad rabbit mommy. For the last few weeks, I have wanted to take Rudy outside, he has not been outside since the day I found him when he was about a week old.

image.png
My son had this cage top and my husband said it would work to put him (Rudy not my son) under as long as I sat beside it so the dogs don't get to him. So I wrapped Rudy in his favorite t-shirt and carried him outside, he had his head sticking out like he was taking it all in. I was talking to him, telling him how much he was going to like where we were going.

image.png
He just sat there, not moving and not eating, staring at me with those beautiful brown eyes, like he was saying Mommy how do you justify the lie, I do not find this fun. My husband said he would not think it was fun either if someone woke him in the middle of his sleeping time.

image.png
I reached in to pet him and felt so bad. His little heart was racing and his body was quivering. We felt he had had enough for one day so I took him back inside where he was so happy to get back to his house.

Later my husband says, I bet when he goes back to sleep and wakes up he will think what kind of nightmare did I have, I saw things and felt things that I never knew were there.

image.png
This is Rudy's litter pan, the litter is like ground-up paper, and on the bag, it says safe for animals and in the next sentence they justify the lie by saying it should not be consumed by animals.

Well, Rudy eats it so I have been putting paper over it and poking holes in the paper, but now he has started eating or pulling the paper back to get to the litter. So today I cut a piece of wire screen to cover it, I think this will work the pee will fall through and the poo will stay on top. I had to build the corner up on the litterbox because he wants to scoot his rear end in the corner and pees over it.

Maybe you could carry him outside for short times, to get him used to just being outside -does he let you hold him? Then short moments on the grass that get longer. He will love it eventually. Poor thing, although his life has been excellent since two or three weeks after you found him.

That is what I plan to do, only take him out for short periods of time. From the day I found him I carried him in an old tee shirt, he seems to love it even though everything I read said rabbits do not like to be picked up. Everyone who has raised a wild baby rabbit says when he gets older he will get mean, I am thinking if this happens, it will be this spring. He is not showing any signs of it yet, he loves to sit beside me and get brushed and petted.

Well, I see you caught the manufacturer in a lie. But then they didn't define "safe". To inhale, lie down on, or eat. Which one?

Poor Rudy. Exposure to new things he'd never seen before left him confused. Will he be forever in the house or transition to outdoors?

Thanks for sharing. And great use of the prompt. Take care.

He will be a house rabbit but I plan to bring him outside for him to have fun in the grass, but I am going to need to bring him out only a few minutes at a time until he gets used to it. I hung a mirror in his cage and he was afraid of it at first, now he sits and stares at himself. We joked about whether he knew what he looked like, did he think he looked like us or the dogs.

That's so cute. I often wonder if animals are aware of how they look. Maybe from others they hang out with. Rudy might be wondering whether the image in the mirror will come out and play.

Thanks for sharing. Take care and have a pleasant weekend.

Excuse my ignorance but what is HSBI? I have never seen these initials, I know what HBD is, anyway, I thank you for it and hope you have a very nice weekend.

One day he might like being outside or you take a piece of outside inside.

For sure he felt relieved to stay in his well familiar environment.

I hope he forgets the nightmare and forgives you if it comes to justifying the lie 😉

Thank you, I value your opinion when it comes to raising animals.

He has forgiven me, we are back to being best buds. I bring green veggies inside for him to eat and I also dig up dandelions and grass for him, so he has been getting things from outside. He also gets Rabbit food and Timothy hay to eat, plus treats.

I hope he does not get mean like others say he will.
