5 minute freewrite 2199 prompt memory chip

My husband went to the fish house to get his ice so he could fish tomorrow. The wind is blowing too hard to fish in the open river so he planned on going up the creek to see if he could catch any jacks.
When he came home he told me that because of the way things are going he does not know if he will go fishing tomorrow. I asked what was wrong. He said he got his ice and was on his way home, there was a truck going in the opposite direction and a squirrel ran in front of it, he said the front tire missed it but the back tire didn't.
My husband pulled off the road and picked up the squirrel, when he did this he saw another squirrel sitting in a nearby tree and it was hollering and looking right at the dead squirrel. This broke his heart even more. My husband is very sensitive when it comes to this sort of thing. But he will not let an animal go to waste.
He brought the squirrel home and showed it to the dogs.
This dog chases them in the yard and would kill them if she got the chance, but since it was dead, she was not interested in it. I guess something did not click in the memory chip of a brain that she has.
Like I said, my husband is not one to let an animal go to waste, he cleaned the squirrel and fried it, I made a gravy to simmer it in because he said she was an older squirrel.

So sad ... but also, no waste...
He was upset over it getting hit, but he did say there was nothing the other driver could do to avoid it. I am glad it was not him who hit it. This is not the first time we have eaten roadkill, one time my sister hit a turkey and brought it to us.
I gathered that it was unavoidable, and I'm glad to know it was not him who hit it ... if you know about our connection to the rest of Creation, you know ... but then again, not having things go to waste is important too!
I've never eaten squirrel. Is it tasty?
Yes, it is tasty, I won't say it tastes like chicken because everyone says everything tastes like chicken. lol. I will say it tastes good, I like it in gravy if old but young ones are good just floured and fried.
I have snow on the ground today. I am worried less about roadkill and more about people who either drive just as fast as they did when roads were clear and people who can't exceed a walking pace because white stuff scares them. Both could do with a memory chip upgrade if that could improve their driving.
There are many people down here, with no snow, who could use a good memory chip but first, they need a brain to put it in.
