Monday motivation - Go for It

Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.

Arthur Ashe

As simple as it is, it’s not a simple thing to do today. You see, many people nowadays are all waiting for the best moment, circumstance, and scenarios before they can get started with something they’ve been aiming at for days, months and even years.

But what we neglect is the fact that the right time is always now, and there’s no other moment to get things done than right here in the now.

Some people also like to complain about how they don’t have the right tools, the right mindset or the right people around them before they start making necessary changes to their life.

I read a book titled “the power of now”, and what I realized after two read over was that we’ve created this whole psychological time where we forget to live in the present moment.

Every so often we are always in the constant fear of what might happen in the future or what has happened in the past. But the real truth is that the only time we have and will always need is now. And if we don’t make use of what we have now, we’ll never be able to achieve anything, no matter how much we plan them in our head.

There are times when I wish I could have a great mobile device that will be able to take breathtaking pictures for my blogs. But then I fail to consider the fact that I have one that’s able to make it happen and even if it’s not the best one or the one I wished for, it’s the only option I have right now.

This realization triggered me to the point that I always make sure I start doing what I can in ways that I can with the tools I have without making a fuss over what I don’t have right now.

Whatever I don’t have right now doesn’t exist and tbh there’s no point in creating something that doesn’t exist to you right now, and using it as a catalyst for getting started on what it is you should be doing will only create a gap and room for procrastination.

This is how many people's dreams are shattered all due to the fact that they are there waiting for the right stuffs, time, and circumstance before they get started on what they should be doing.

It could be tagged laziness, but occasionally it’s not because we are lazy but because we want everything to be perfect before we sit our ass down to get things done. And those who are in this constant wait for the right scenario are always people who only talk about their great ideas but then end it with an excuse for not pursuing them.

It’s all an excuse and to some extent it’s laziness, for we can’t be perfect in anything without practice. And to practice you’ve got to start where you are, use what you have and do what you can over and over again before you can get to the perfectionist level.

It’s Monday, and I’m saying this out loud to myself that I won’t be the one waiting for the right circumstance, tool, or moment before I get started with what I wish to accomplish, but rather I choose to start right now without trying to get it right all at once.

It’s true that slow and steady wins the race, but then sometimes it’s not about the race at all, it’s about participating and getting started, then you can figure the rest out along the way.

But before that, you’ve got to take the first step and go for it — slow and steady can win the race, but you won’t have any race to win if you don’t take the leap.

Are you the procrastinating type who likes to wait for the perfect moment? If you are, my advice to you is to not let the fear of not being perfect push you to not get started.

Go for it now and seek perfection gradually later.

Thanks for reading

Until next time

What you write here is very true. Sometime, actually, probably quite often, motivation doesn't occur until you've started the activity you were seeking motivation for in the first place.

I think wanting to get fitter is a classic example. I know I've been guilty of this in the past. I wait until I feel like I'm motivated to start exercising, but in reality, that time is never really going to come. But, if I start exercising, no matter how I feel, motivation comes as I start to make progress - I can run further, faster, than the day before which builds motivation to keep pushing forward; some of my clothes start to fit better, which produces motivation to keep exercising so that even more clothes will fit even better. This has only occurred because I started, not because I waited for the perfect time.

Thanks for writing this - it's a good reminder to just get up and get on with it rather than waiting for all of the stars to align perfectly.
