Towards the second qualifier, the competition between Verstappen and Hamilton is still ongoing. However, this time Hamilton was superior. Hamilton topped the second qualifying session with a score of 1 minute 25.390 seconds. Hamilton was 0.077 seconds ahead of Verstappen. Meanwhile, there was an act of killing each other for the Ferrari team as Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc scrambled for a place in the third qualifier. Vettel created the momentum first when he finished 10th, the last position to qualify for the final session.

However, Vettel's happiness did not last long. Leclerc nudged into the top 10, fifth to be precise, to knock Vettel back into the elimination zone. Continuing to the third qualifier, Verstappen still showed fierce resistance against the Mercedes duo who always took pole position this season. Verstappen beat Valtteri Bottas (+0.068) and Lewis Hamilton (+0.081) at the start of the third qualifying session with a score of 1 minute 25.744 seconds. Hamilton responded on the second run. He managed to shift Verstappen's position with a record time of 1 minute 25.525 seconds. Bottas doesn't want to lose. Scoring the fastest time in all three sectors, the Finn secured the pole position with a score of 1 minute 25.269 seconds. Verstappen bit his finger. Losing grip in the last sector, Verstappen had to settle for being in third position, 0.2 seconds adrift of Bottas. Charles Leclerc showed an impressive performance after finishing fourth, right in the middle of the two Red Bull Racing riders.
